I have spondylosis in my neck, along with oesteophytes and anrrowing of the spinal canal and am looking to have an operation at some time in my life. They have to go in from the front just above my jugular. (Ouch). Can anyone tell me what it is like and the recovery time?

Sure. I had a ruptured disc in my neck that required surgery. They went in at the fron of my neck. I had 2 of the vertebrae fused. My range of motion is still as good as before. I had to wear a cervical coller, like the ones you get when the paramedics put one on you after a car wreck. Had to wear for about 4-6 weeks. Your problem is similar. They will clean off the osteophytes and enlarge the foramen. You should do well. 4-6 weeks in a collar.

I have had 5 spinal surgeries and from what you are describing, the recovery should be around three months. You probably will be in some type of neck brace for a month, and then a stiff collar for another month.

My daughter had a fusion from her skull to c6. She was in a halo because of her age. She was in it for almost 7 months. Three days after surgery she was up and moving around pretty well.
