I know in Las Vegas most of the machines don't take or give out coins. You just get a ticket that you take to the cashier.

Depends on the Casino. Most in Las Vegas are going "paper ticket". But in some of the older casinos downtown or out on Boulder Highway, you can still find machines that receive and pay out in coins.

At the Connecticut casinos, approximately 95% of the slots pay off in paper slips that are either redeemed or are inserted into other slots. The bar code on that slip of paper will be read and you will be given that credit to start with at the "new" slot. Eventually, the slip can be cashed at the window for cash.

It depends on the how old the casino is. Modern machines don't use coins anymore since there is a great deal of fraud. You can still find them in older casinos and international casinos. In the US most casinos use paper slips due to security concerns. To find out more about the inside truths of gambling see:

Slot-Ticket is the original approved source for EZ-Pay slot machine tickets. Slot-Tickets provides high quality tickets designed for all TITO “ticket-in/ticket-out” coinless slot machines.
With the advances in slot machine software and the ability of slot machines to accept bills and slot tickets casinos will say that slot tickets are a benefit to gamblers because it eliminates coins, consolidates all monies on to one format and makes slot machines more independent.... with the slot ticket there is no need to have a full hopper because, for example, you put a twenty dollar bill in... you spin... you win eighty... print out your winnings on a slot ticket and move to another machine. The slot ticket is like a big huge receipt roll that only needs be changed once it runs out... and slot tickets are virtually impossible to counterfeit. The advances in software and programing also means that using the slot ticket with your players club card at your local casino and the casino can keep track of you, your spending habits, your every spin, and compensate you accordingly. Officials say that utilizing a slot ticket and your players club card does not effect the way your slots pay but I honestly feel that why wouldn't casinos keep track of their gamblers... it is good business sense... If "bob" the gambler uses his players club card and gambles 4 times at a casino and loses 500 dollars the casino (software) knows this...casinos want you to come back so the casino (software) lets "bob" win 200 on his 5th visit because A: they know he'll put it back in and B: if "bob" leaves a 5th time without feeling good about his experience he might go months and months before returning....
So back to your question... yes more and more casinos are going to slot tickets but not for our convenience... for their convenience.....

In Oklahoma at the Indian casinos, you can't use coins. You can put bills in or the paper slips that you have won. This is the law here.

You insert your bills of any denomination to start. When you leave the maching, you get a ticket that you may cash out or insert into another machine. All the sounds are computer generated.
