i hate the no child left behind act. i was a teacher's aide at this one elementary school in Long Beach, CA. and all of the teachers at that school was teaching at the same pace. i noticed a few students was left behind, nobody did anything to help those students. the teacher goes something like this: "at this school, all of the teachers have to follow the no child left behind act, everyday we learn a few pages (from the math book) and if a student is behind, we can't do much about it, but to move on".. *sigh*

From what I understand is that a teacher needs to help a child in every way to learn something like for example reading. I know some children that do not know how to read and yet they were passed on to the next grade without even being at the grade level they were supposed to be in. It is sort of like passing the buck. Then they expect the next teacher to pick up the slack. I mean we as a society should not depend on teachers to teach our children. It also goes back on the parents. Parents need to take their part in helping a child's education be successful.

It basically says that the government will cut funding to punish schools for not meeting FCAT standards... The acts supporters claim that the kids can simply choose another school to go to but any parent or bus driver can tell you how stupid that is.
it's very silly and most states are ignoring it because the act is very confusing and contradicts itself all over the place...
Besides, how can schools get better without funding?
Just today, a grade school teacher came through my line at work trying to buy posterboards to decorate her class room. She said it looked like a prison and they wouldn't give her any money to decorate the bulletin board so she had to buy it out of pocket.
Her credit card came up declined and she borrowed the money from her 16 year old daughter.... now tell me that's right....

From Wikipedia:
"The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (Public Law 107-110), commonly known as NCLB, is a United States federal law that reauthorizes a number of federal programs that aim to improve the performance of America's primary and secondary schools by increasing the standards of accountability for states, school districts and schools, as well as providing parents more flexibility in choosing which schools their children will attend."

It's an act requiring teachers to teach to the slowest child in class. It's extremely degrading and bad for kids who are intelligent.
