Well i reckon... and i'm no expert mind (tho i am a scientist of the earth variety)! I just keep my eyes and ears open and am blessed with a logical bonce... For a start we're getting much better at discovering new and previously un- or mis- diagnosed diseases and disorders, rapidly expanding understandings of our own physiology/ biology and the biochemistry of the human body, both in our understanding of its reaction to age old d and dis's and also the ever expanding exposure to new chemicals, pollution, pathogens viral, bacterial and otherwise nasty "things" in this wonderful modern world of ours. so statistically we're gonna seem more pathetic as creatures because we're forever gaining understanding of our own weaknesses.
Then there is the argument that our modern comfy "wrapped in cotton wool" lifestyles are making us physically weaker, turning our previously virulent immune systems honed by years of battling beasties from birth, have become more susceptible to the many nasty little critters of all sizes even down to the cellular level, who also inhabit our world are possibly even weakening our genetic code? Whether anyone can substantiate that with scientific proof is arguable.
I don't know how old you are but when i was young (i'm just the right side of 30), very few kids had asthma, maybe less than a dozen in the whole school, now every kid seems to carry the obligatory inhaler. Is that just coincidence? or a result of ever increasing levels of pollution, namely airbourn particulates such as those created by crop dust or far more commonly diesel fuel (more diesel cars on the road than ever) and heavy industry (dont blame it on dust mites either, a HEPA filter was something out of Starwars when i were a lad!). Are we simply becoming weak because we struggle to keep our environments so clean? "KILLS 99.5% OF GERMS!!!!" We are artificially weakening our own immune systems? Or are we exposing ourselves to ever increasing levels and cocktails of chemicals and drugs, and its altering the natural ebb and flow of our bodies? Are all the genetic manipulations and chemical permutations used to combat existing disorders simply prompting nature to evolve new and improved "superbugs"? Are the Industrialists and scientists pressing the big red button in the never ending search for wealth and immortality? Or are we simply becoming a nation of whining hypochondriacs? I dont really know and i would defy anyone to be able to give a definative answer. Spend your lifetime trying to find the answer and i'd wager you'll fail, and i don't bet.
But then is a sure bet a bet?

well just think of how much money is made from medication!!! its a disgrace, there is a theory that for every disease on the planet there is a plant or herb to cure it but at the rate we are cutting down the rain forest there is no chance of finding them as they havent all been discovered yet, ive just been diagnosed with IBS and its ruined my life so far, i find it incredible that a disorder that effects 1 in every five in the west does not have a cure??? but then think of the money made on medication form all those people, also why doesnt anyone suffer from it apart from the west, ingredients in food????

I see your point and I agree but what I want to know is how do they come up with the names. You can hurt your big toe and end up with toehurtoliosis. Then you are given medicine to cure things but the side effects are even worse then what the person has.I have heart failure, why is it not heart broken or heart can't be fixed. You are right about that there are so many in this world.

There probably isn't any more of anything about that wasn't there before, it's just that things are more reported and sensationalised. It's like autism, the figures go up because diagnosis is getting better and everyone blames the MMR. Like bird flu, there has probably always been a small risk but because it makes a top headline, out come the scaremongers and before you know it everyone is hysterical.

Because nature is constantly trying to reassert balance. We are always finding cures that allow the population to continue to grow, so nature finds new ways to keep the population in check.

I have alwaye believed the Earth is trying to find ways to cleanse itself. We have become so over populated and we are ruining the Enviroment. I don't want anyone to dye, or I don't want any horrible disease, but I believe that.

perhaps they were here all along and that they are surfacing or have been dormant for many years. people are the best at spreading them. germs and bacteria multiply millions of times an hour and they evolve to their surroundings in order to survive.
