I will tell you from experience, by far the best thing to at least quickly relieve the ear discomfort is "sweet oil" (it usually comes in a small glass or plastic bottle). I'm not sure what the ingredients are, but it has the consistency of vegetable oil. You can purchase it over-the-counter at your local pharmacy, and I believe its fairly cheap. Place 2 or 3 drops in the ear canal as needed. Not sure how it works, but it probably softens the eardrum and membranes and has some sort of local anelgesic effect. I guarantee it will work better and faster than any narcotic pain reliever. It's the best thing since sliced bread. I know what he is going through..theres nothing worse than a severe earache. Best of luck to you.

I've had both an inner and outter ear infection at the same time, its no walk in the park. Antibiotics will work to an extent, but the BEST help, would be to call your doctor and ask for ear-drops. these are drops that you put into the ear every few hours. they soothe and relieve the pain. This is what my doctor gave me when I had both inner and outter infection.

Here's something to try in the mean time, start him on allergy medicine. This will help in drying things up and he should start getting relief in about a day or so or until the Doc gets back to you.

DO NOT put anything into his ears unless a Dr. tells you to.

Best of luck.

It sounds like he needs a stronger antibiotic. Take him to your local urgent care if your doctor hasn't phoned you back. Tell them what he's on and that its not working and you need something stronger. Try som motrin too, just to relieve the pain a little.

You need to call the doctor again and tell him you want some codeine syrup or some sort of pain killer for your husband.

Get to a specialist now. If not cleared up quickly, there could be partial or total hearing loss.
