siblings. I had a bro and sis growing up. we did have our little fights, but now it is so great to have someone that knows all the family stories and can relate to all the family drama. My sister is my best friend. We have a lot of memories together and know each other so well. It's also nice to have someone to talk to about mom. ;)

From a parent's point of view:
I have three kids and I can already see how they are learning from each other so much more than I could teach alone! They learn about sharing, compromise, fairness, how to deal when it isn't fair, and consideration of others. The younger ones also learn how to play and imagine from the older ones. I love hearing them play with each other - they are totally occupied with their game and I know they are forming bonds that they will not have with other kids!

Having been a sibling and having raised three children, I would still choose to have siblings. I believe that you have a much better chance of learning to share, care, and communicate with brothers and sisters and regardless of the age difference between them. Within reason, of course.

A sibling is the only other person who will ever know what its like to be a child with your parents. you will spend more time with a sibling than with anyone else in your life.

I have 1 brother & 1 sister, we are 6 & 7 years apart so in many ways it was like I was an only child. Now that we are much older, my sister & I are very close, I dont know what I would do without her, especially since our parents have both passed away. My daughter is an only child & she was very lonely, even though she had friends. There's nothing like family.

This would depend on my living situation as a child.

I lived in a small house with my parents and shared a (quite small) room with my younger sister and I would have done anything to have got rid of my sister and have my own space.

So in that situation I would have rather been an only child.
If I lived in a big house then I would have appreciated my siblings and still been able to escape into my little sanctuary.

I grew up as an only child because my dad had died. Then as a teenager I had a 2 sibblings. I would have been so sad to have remained an only child. I would have felt very alone in this world. I must say they are both great, so I am lucky. I might think diferently if they were evil beings

I would not choose to be an only child. All the 'only child' people I have known are lacking something - possibly an ability to share life with people you don't actually like.

There are many downsides to having brothers and sisters but most people I know who swear at them would also give their life for them, if neccessary. I don't think only children know or understand that feeling properly, if at all.

I definitely would chose siblings. There is a closeness that is special with family. Sure-we all get mad at times, but - in my case - I would not trade my brother for anything! Both of our parents have died, and it's so great to know we still have each other.
