Yes, Definitely cold water. Not hot. Be careful it's completely thawed before you cook it. (Which will take quite some time) Chicken can be dangerous if it's not prepared properly!
PS. What's wrong with the microwave then?

Well, you could try "Jaques Cousteauing" it (ie- soak it - in the wrapper in a sink full of tepid water) but be careful to clean sink thoroughly and bleach afterwards to avoid salmonella contact with your pots, pans and dishes. And sometimes this makes for less juicy meat when it is roasted.

Although, it still probably will take some time, maybe more than you have. Some things you just can't hurry...

Best of luck to you...and maybe do the chicken tommorow night and just go ahead and order a pizza or some chinese this evening.

You can fill a sink with cold water, it will still take a couple of hours, but that is the only way I know to defrost it in a hurry.

fill up to sink with cold water ,puit the chicken in a zip lock and put it in the water. I dont know how long it would take it to defrost though.

Put it under continuous hot running water from your tap. It will thaw but not as fast as a microwave defrosting cycle though.

In a sink of cold water is a great suggestion made by many, BUT make sure you change that water about every 20 minutes.

Put it in a pan and run cold water on it in your sink ... should thaw with no problems. In case of Salmonella concerns, you would have to leave it out for quite a while to get that result.

Good luck!

Run cold water in your sink and put the chicken in, making sure it is covered. Never use warm water, though, just cold.

I don't know how quick you want it defrosted, but putting it in the kitchen sink full of cold water may help it along.

Submerge it the bathtub filled with HOT water for as long as it takes, when the water cools off, drain it and refill again with HOT water.
