And you answered your own question. Give yourself 2 points.
I don't know any nun (priest, rabbi, monk, pope) anywhere that is not a person first, nun (whatever) 2nd.
The walls of the catacombs in Rome were lined with corpses of dead babies. And there are tunnels under lots of priests' houses to the nunneries. So smoking doesn't surprise me.
There was a good-looking priest and nun at my (catholic) high school who later left the service and got married! We were happy for them.
I think the hypocrisy is the part I find so distastedful. I think they would do the world a serivce to show that it is hard to be "perfect" even when that is your job.
But instead they hide and back each other up, so abuse and deceit are common. Pedophiles are the result.
I am a recovering catholic, been an atheist for 40 years, but I don't know exactly what "unnatural beliefs" you are talking about.
Often, people decide to forego the luxuries and headaches of the physical world, to try to devote themselves to the "invisible." Results vary as much as people do.
What I want to know is "boxers or briefs"?

a) ""unnatural" beleifs of catholicism" - Not all nuns are catholic, also each of the orders have their own vows, rules, traditions, etc.
b) "finding boxes of rubbers" - Few people, in my experience, live up to their commitments. Personally it's hard for me to imagine swearing off sex without going insane so it doesn't surprise me.
c)"smoking cigarettes while driving in cars." - I wasn't aware of smoking being prohibited, keep in mind most of the rules they live by are quite old and smoking wasn't vilified until the 70s at the earliest (when people started realizing the significance of their negative health impact). And again each of the orders maintain their own rules and vows.
Also your seeming discomfort with nuns is fairly common, clowns bother me the same way :).
Take it easy,
Armus

There's no specific prohibition against smoking.
There is a vow of chastity. Nuns are human, though. People take vows of fidelity all the time when they get married - and look how many actually keep thier vows...

smoking has never been considered a sin. it's stupid, but being stupid isn't a sin either, obviously. and since when is driving considered a sin?
and i seriously doubt they found boxes of rubbers in a convent that housed only nuns, especially pre-1971.
you better sit down for this one: they can drink alcohol, too! woooooo scaaaaarrrryyyyy...
who cares?

So,
All Christians are supposed to be Saints on earth?
Tough crowd.
As far as sex, they take a vow of celibacy, they are not supposed to, I doubt many do.
But there are always some who break their vows.
People are human, even Nuns and Priests.
Peace!

I went to catholic school. Yes, nuns smoke and drink. I never witnessed nun-sex, and I'm not interested, but I guess I wouldn't be surprised if they did that too =)

Uhuh! Strange this post came up. I was just telling some one about the documents I used to have of a church that was torn down and they found skeletons of new borns with evidence of the umbilical chord still attached.
Here's one of my old files that may be of interest to you.
