Absolutely! Once my boyfriend was on the phone talking about how we were poor as church mice. I said, "I wish we were as poor as church mice!" Then muttered, "Lucky damn church mice..."
Everyone cracked up.

It is a saying, if a mouse is in a church it is poor because traditionally churches were cold and obviously there is no food available so it would suffer and not be as well off as a mouse in a house where there is plently of both heat and food. This is applied to people who are poor or live humbly for the same reasons, they don't have as much as others and struggle with their lifestyle.

I never heard of that saying until now, but when I was about 6 years old, I really was so poor because I had no money (but my parents did of course) all I had was pennies (about 60 cent). But now, I have some money and I save it up so I can have a lot and that really helped!!!

colder than a witch's t*t in a brass bra
don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya......
all things my grandparents have said at one time or another.
I'm sure I could think of a few more if given time...

Sure--it's pretty common around here (Indiana). It's nothing compared to "colder than a witch's t*t" or others. When I was a kid, there was even a TV show called "Timothy Churchmouse."

Yes. I am familiar with this saying. I heard it from both my Grandmother and mother.
It's nice to know it's still going around.
