What is the purpose of the little pocket inside the side pocket of jeans?

This small pocket was designed and put into use by Levi Straus Co. in the early 1800s to hold a pocket watch. Wrist watches were not in use until the early 1900s. The chain attached to the ring on the watch on one end and the other end of the watch chain hooked onto the belt loop closest to the pocket. The design was never changed even though the use of the pocket watch has deminished over the years.

This a a questioned that I always wanted an answer to. I will be checking back on other responses. I had always used the little pocket for change and also a place to hold a pen or pencil. But the majority of the time, I seem to always place my finger in the pocket as I walked.

Don't know. But I do use is occasionally. My lip gloss fits perfectly in it. Also, I find that it's a great place to put bills in when you go clubbing. I don't bring a purse and if I fold the money nicely, it fits snuggly in that little pocket. A lot harder for me to loose it or get it stolen this way.

A lot of men hide phone numbers from other women in them.
