He hasn't ordered a Crusade like other Popes have! That would be stupid!

How about this one:

The Turk who shot Pope John Paul II in 1981 will be released from prison Thursday, but he then may be tried in a military court for allegedly dodging the draft and escaping military custody, an official said Monday.

A Turkish court decided last week to free Mehmet Ali Agca, 47, on parole, saying he had completed his prison term for crimes committed in Turkey. Agca was extradited to Turkey in 2000 after serving almost 20 years in an Italian prison for shooting and wounding John Paul in St. Peter's Square in Rome on May 13, 1981.

Mehmet Ali Ağca (born January 9, 1958) is a Turkish assassin who shot and wounded Pope John Paul II on May 13, 1981. After serving 19 years of incarceration in Italy, and another five years in Turkey for the 1979 murder of Abdi İpekçi, a left-wing journalist, Ağca was released on parole on January 12, 2006, only to have this revoked soon afterwards. Ağca has described himself as a mercenary with no political orientation, although he is known to have been a member of the Turkish ultra-nationalist Grey Wolves organization.

Ağca was born in İsmailli village, Hekimhan district, Malatya Province in Turkey. As a youth, he became a petty criminal and a member of street gangs in his home town. He became a smuggler between Turkey and Bulgaria.

He is believed to have then gone to Syria where he received two months of training in weaponry and terrorist tactics. He claims this was undertaken as a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and paid for by the Bulgarian government, although this has been questioned.

Haroon, I do not understand you.

The pope gave a speech saying that violence to promote religion is evil and that followers of Islam have historically used violence to promote their religion.

The recent waves of Muslim violence to protest the pope's comments prove beyond question that Islam DOES have followers who use violence to promote their religion. You can't call someone stupid just because they tell the truth.

That means that you must be calling him stupid for condemning the use of violence to promote religion. How can you do that and still call yourself a peaceful person?

...

So you believe that anyone who speaks out against violence is thereby promoting violence by causing the violent people to lash out at him. What a bizarre opinion.

The quote used by the pope essentially says two things:

1. Islam is evil where it differs from Christianity, and ONLY evil where it differs from Christianity.
2. The only difference he mentioned is that the followers of Islam use violence to promote their religion.

You are focusing on the first point and completely ignoring the second. I think the second point is the one that is more important. How can you NOT believe that someone who uses violence to promote their religion is evil?

If the pope is wrong about the followers of Islam using violence to promote their religion, then he has mentioned no true difference between Islam and Christianity. Therefore, the first point would be stating that Islam is NOT evil.

If you truly want Islam to be a religion of peace, you should be fighting against the followers of Islam who use violence instead of fighting against everyone else who want to stop them.

I'm sure we have had many Popes who were not as smart as Pope Benedict XVI.

Here is a link to the English translation of the Pope's controversial speech: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/speeches/2006/september/documents/hf_ben-xvi_spe_20060912_university-regensburg_en.html

With love in Christ.
