I have switched from chemical cholesterol meds to red yeast rice and my cholesterol is a better level. I also take fish oil and flax seed oil (omega 3)
I have not had any side effects, but researching long term effects. Found nothing negative on the internet.

Lots of great info. Now can anyone break down mg to other units of measure?

certainly no negative long term effects taking omega 3's. this one is well supported and well accepted. Red rice yeast is an alternative treatment that seems to be good as well. I think it has gotten mixed results in limited testing- but as it doesn't have drug company money behind it, we may never see large scale testing of it. But- I haven't heard anything bad.

Heck- there was a study recently that said eating a grapefruit every day was just as effective at lowering chloresterol as statin drugs. Strange tho' that you cannot drink grapefruit juice and take statin drugs at the same time. weird.

Something that may be cheaper than FlaxSeed Oil is milled flaxseed. You can buy it at Wal-Mart in the baking section. It has to be refrigerated once it is opened, but it lasts a long time. My sons and I are vegetarians, so we use it to get the Omega 3 benefits we wouldn't get since we don't eat fish. We add it to everything from smoothies to oatmeal. It doesn't have a strong flavor, so it just blends in. It also makes a good egg replacer in recipes, by boiling a few tablespoons of water and adding flax and cooking until it thickens (think gravy). I've used this for some delicious, but very heart healthy, oatmeal cookies.
Congrats on the cholesterol drop. Keep up the good work!

Yes, it does. First I came to know about it by reading an article on Dr. Sam Robbins blog and then taken a supplement containing nutrients of red yeast rice with other vitamins and it really worked well.

red yeast rice is a crude and less potent (hence less likely for side effects) form of lipitor, zocor, crestor etc. Omega 3 is fish oil. Long term side effects are less, just take Vit E 400 IU daily too. Good luck

Omega 3 is good for you. Every morning I take my flax seed oil and have salmon once a week. There are NO side effects.
