In the state of Texas, it is required that you update the address on your Drivers License within 30 days after moving. So if you did not do this, and the Officer discovers this, then the citation is valid.
This is law for several reasons. One so we have a good address to contact you or family in case of an emergency. For example: Daisy's Dad was speeding 30 MPH over the limit and T-Bones you on the driver's side killing you. When the fire department pulls you from the vehicle using the jaws of life, they remove your drivers license from yuor wallet. The Officer then goes and informs the new family in your old house, that there has been a terrible accident.
Another reason is for those of you who don't beleive they have to pay the ticket, because the Officer was being a "****". When you fail to pay the ticke, a warrant will be issued for your arrest. So the officer goes to your home listed on the address to serve it, but you have not lived there for some time. You are probably thinking that is kind of funny. So I am going to change things up for you a bit. Lets say someone you care about was just murdered, and you saw the guy who did it. You give a good description of the offender and the police have you pick him out of a photo line up. Now the Police take your positive identification of the felon and pull his Department Of Motor Vehcile record to see where he lives. Suprise, he does not live there no more, because its a stupid law to make you update your address.
I have only seen this paticular charge written on a citation a handful of times. Usually you will receive a warning for it unless you have already received a warning for this in the past. Yes we do keep track of warnings. When the Officer returns to his vehicle thats one of the things he is looking at. He is pulling your record to see what all you have been contacted for in the past.
Now lets assume you have not been warned for this before. Remember this... It is the Officers descretion to write a ticket or to give a warning. So If you decide you want to argue or be a "****", then the Officer will decide to write a ticket and not a warning. Wait it gets better.....In Texas we have a third option. You can go straight to jail. Yes thats right, do not pass go, do not collect $200.
In Texas we can take you to jail for any traffic violation except for Speeding and Open Container of Alcohol. So If you decide you want to argue or be a ****, then the Officer will decide to issue a warnning, a ticket, or take your dumb butt to jail.
Wait it gets better. Now that I have decided to take you to jail, I have to do something with your car. So it will be towed, but before I can tow the vehicle, it has to be inventoried. Now we will find out for sure if you have been smoking that Marijuana like the Officer suspected.
Now, my question is what did you do to get stopped in the first place, and why did the Officer think you were smoking pot?

Why is it the non-law abiding always bad mouth the police in this country?
No, you don't have a year! Most states is 30 days for a change of address!
And given your attitude, you're probably guilty of the "pot" too!
Try OBEYING the law and then you won't have the problems you have.
Bet the cop wouldn't be a "****" if someone was about to terminate your ***!

first of all to the chick who is compaining that her dad got $200 tickets for going over 30mph over the speed limit. hell if i were a cop i would do the same thing, other people's lives and yours are in danger. to answer your question to some extent, what did you do that you needed to have a cop check your license, i'm sure there is something else to this story you are not sharing. also if you tell a cop you live at such and such and then he looks at your license and it's different, you think that he thinks your honest about where you really live. what if something happened to you and someone at your address needed to be contacted and they can't find it b/c you have the wrong address. that doesn't make the cop a ****, he's doing his job, its your responsibility to be an adult and update you info with dmv. seeing as you didn't give the reason why a cop even needed you address i will assume he pulled you over for something. in that case, you need to understand driving is a privelage, and people need to obey the law, once again it's you responsibility to change your info. lying to the dmv is a crime, and also you are lying to the federal government when it comes to the draft registry.

I grew up in a small town where most of the cops were corrupt. I hated cops for the longest. I know work with police at diff venues, for concerts. All cops are not dicks. In one of our venues if someone gets caught with a couple of joints going into a concert, they will take them and still let them attend the concert. If they get caught with a great deal of pot, they will take the pot, and refund their ticket money for the concert, and kick them out. It takes a whole lot to get arrested at a concert, at any of the 10 venues I work at. I think that was stupid to be charged for that. Some cops just have this attitude. I know it is hard, but I would not stereotype all cops, because of that or other situations.

The cop did you a favor, if there is ever a warrant out for you and it is sent to the wrong address, you'll never know about it until you are arrested. This way they can always notify you if your license is suspended or revoked, or cancelled, so you will know if you shouldn't be driving.

Of course not! Some of them are women! - Anyway BE GRATEFUL your alive, and the cop wasn't racing down to the "incorrect" address to inform your parents that you were DEAD! That is why you must keep your ID current... Grow up! If your old enough to drive - your most certainly old enough to know and obey the law.Remember this - if you don't change your address, your car insurance become INVALID!!, and that goes for any ones car you drive....

I am sure that sunny attitude didn't help matters much. Sometimes it's best to know when to keep your mouth shut. Watch the Chris Rock video about how to act when dealing with the police.

The answer is yes. While not all cops are corrupt, they are certainly all dickheads. They are nothing more than small penised thugs who get to carry a gun and badge. I was screwed bigtime by a cop a few years ago, he ended up lying in a court of law, he lied directly through his teeth and there wasnt a sh*ttin' thing I could do about it. It ended up costing me almost $2500. I know his name. I say a prayer every night that his children are born without eyes.

Well, not changing the address on your driver's license was a stupid thing to do now, wasn't it? You were in the wrong, so what are you complaining about?

So, you break the law and the cop cites you and that makes him the ****. Interesting, but when will you take responsibility for your actions?
