Believe it or not-there really are bed bugs and that could be it or even dust mites. Try covering your mattress with a protective lining and do your pillows as well. You can purchase them at any any mass market store like Walmart or Kmart. The same thing happened to me and my doctor say it was dust mites. What is causing the itch is their feces that are under your skin-as gross as it sounds, it's true.

It sounds as though you have restless leg syndrome. Despite its name, the disorder can affect feet, arms and hands. According to several sites, it is treatable. Your symptoms seem very similar to those described below (from the Restless Legs Syndrome Foundation Web site):
* You have a strong urge to move your legs which you may not be able to resist. The need to move is often accompanied by uncomfortable sensations. Some words used to describe these sensations include:creeping, itching, pulling, creepy-crawly, tugging or gnawing.
* Your RLS symptoms start or become worse when you are resting. The longer you are resting, the greater the chance the symptoms will occur and the more severe they are likely to be.
* Your RLS symptoms are worse in the evening especially when you are lying down. Activities that bother you at night do not bother you during the day.
Good luck.

I had trouble like that while I was 8-9 mos pregnant. It was caused by a build up of bile acids in my bloodstream (my liver wasn't processing the waste from both me and my baby efficiently). These acids are secreted in sweat and are irritating to the skin. Unfortunately, the parts of the body that sweat the most are the hands, feet, and underarms. And because most of us wear antiperspirants under the arms, that leaves hands and feet. Have your dr run a liver function blood test. It takes a few weeks to get back, but if it is the source of the problem, you can take medication. This problem I don't think is life threatening, but all the same, see your dr.
It could be anything, but this is one thing that is fairly uncommon, and I doubt anyone will bring it up...

Fleas, bed bugs, dry skin, little dust mites, or tiny little spiders. Wash your bedding and spray your mattress. Get some flea spray and spray your
furniture and carpet. Do this once and then again
7-10 days later. Chances are you are bringing the
little critters in from outside. It could also be a vitamin deficiency. Check with your doctor.
