My cat is a stray I took in this winter. He had a couple of spots on his gums before but nothing the vet thought was out of the ordinary. However, the other day I was checking out his teeth and noticed dark spots all over his gums. They have increased and it worries me. He is going to the vet later this week but am wondering if anyone has ever encountered this problem with their cat before. I am trying to ease my mind but will take whatever information anyone can offer. As he is a stray I don't know how old he is. We guess around three or four year old male neutered cat up to date with shots etc.

Lucky kitty to get such wonderful care from you. Spots on the gums can just occur as a cat gets older, kind of like "liver" spots in us old folks.

You should definitely call it to your vet's attention when he goes in this week.

This is not uncommon. See what the vet says before you worry unduly. My cat, the white six-toed stray, had that, too. He lived to be 16.

My cat has pigment changes on his gums too. It is normal for some species.

This is just how it is - we've always had cats with this - some have more, or less.

gingivitice. Both our cats have it. It's very easily treatable.
