My boyfriend was assaulted by his exgirlfriend and a gang of guys last week. We called the cops and my boyfriend pressed charges.. the cops took a report and told him to call the precinct for a report number so he did. When we called the desk officer told us whic detectives were assigned and when to call back so we did. Once we got the detective he tried to tell us it wasnt his.. then he actually found the index number and but said the report wasnt there. He said he would call us back and has been avoiding us ever since. We are afraid that he cant find the report and she will get away with what she did... WHAT CAN WE DO??????

A possible explanation:
There's probably a police report in existance, but that it has not been processed by their records people and forwarded to the detectives yet.
The detective, being unenthused about taking on another case, is hoping it doesn't come to him, but if he does...he'll work it. But he doesn't want to volunteer for it.
The type of report you made is one that 'time is not critical' for someone to get right on it, even though you wouldn't agree with that. But that's how law enforcement looks at it. The event is over, the assault is done, the thing left is to review the evidence and see if there's an avenue of possibility for charging someone, then forwarding the reports to the DA and then 'maybe' a complaint will be issued, etc. A very long process, painfully slow for anyone on the victim's side. If your boyfriend is without supporting witnesses on his side, to counter the "It wasn't me" claims from the other side, it may end up even more disappointing for you.
But this is all speculation. It's doubtful that the report has been lost. If it was lost, it can be re-made. Especially if you have an index number, etc, and can show that a report was made in a timely basis in the first place.

Good Jase, of course you should telephone the police, in any case he's ninety six (or used to be). He without doubt hasn't been at home for a very long time, six months you say. If he did go to seek advice from and then keep with his daughter then i am amazed that his house is left like that. It's under no circumstances a situation for the police to cellphone about an aged neighbour.

Good Luck! I had a battery police report I filed on my ex, end up missing. He worked for the police. I know his father paid money to get it pulled. I tried everything I knew to do, and the report was never found.

Here's what has happened... your boyfriends ex-girlfriends new boyfriend is a cop. The gang of guys were probably all cops. I would write a letter to your local newspaper or tv news explaining what happened. If the guys can be identified, I would demand that they line up all the cops there for identification.

First call your head of the police department. If you get nowhere there then got to the TV news crews. Something will happen.
