I found some info on cyst, but you should be careful, because you don't want any infections. Follow your doc's orders...

I am sure a Plastic Surgeon will remove the sebaceous cyst. They do not really cost you any more than another type of doctor. If you have insurance it should cover it. Don't try anything else to remove it yourself. You can get an infection and that would leave an ugly scar and you could get very ill.

By 'your doctor' I assume you mean your GP, I would suggest a referral to either a head and neck surgeon or an ENT surgeon. If necessary they would be able to arrange removal of the cyst.
The reluctance of your GP would be due to the proximity of vital things in your neck, (in addition to the 'windpipe' there are also large, fairly superficial veins in the neck!)

I think you should get a scan first to make sure it is not other type of cyst like thyroid cyst. If it is a sebaceous cyst i see no reason why they should not take it out. Sebaceous cyst will not go away by itself and can get infected and if excised completely it should not come back.

Did your doctor refer you to a surgeon? Is it hurting?
See a surgeon if it is hurting/growing. They would remove it in that area only if it is causing symptoms due to the proximity to the caratoid arteries and jugular veins and thyroid and such...
Otherwise, you will get a wait and see approach from everyone.

I've had several of them. They are not harmful, but they certainly are annoying. Unfortunately, you must have them removed surgically. Luckily, my insurance paid for the procedures. You might want to check with your insurer to see what they will pay.

Depending on how deep it is you might get rid of it with regular hot compresses, otherwise you might need it surgically removed.

Go to another doc...try to see a cosmetic surgeon (believe it or not)...or an ENT ear nose & throat specialist.
