A while back my ex-H made some false claims & a warrant was put out for me. Once the DA's office did an investigation they "no billed" it&I have a TOTALLY CLEAN record...Here's the deal, I live in a TINY town...the state, county and local law enf. were all faxed & mailed copies of a letter from the office that had nobilled the charges (from DA). There are @ 6 cops in this whole town & I've been back in town for about 2 mos. I saw the police chief Saturday & have seen many of the cops since being back - not a peep or bother from any of them. SO today, in front of my daughters school a cop car pulls in behind me - light going! The cop says (chest all puffed up) "you are wanted right?" I tell him "no sir, it's all been cleared up"...he says I need to run your license, I give it to him a w/letter from the agency that has dropped the charges. He goes back to the car, takes FOREVER, he's got lights still on..finally comes out & says all is clean (seemd dissapointed)

(ran out of room) then the 2 cops get out of the car & pace right by me in front of the school! All the town gossips are in heaven & I could care less if it were just me but now they are doing this crap in front of my daughter & friends! Is there anything I can DO? I never did anything wrong in the 1st place & now am being treated like a criminal!

Thank you all...
to the person who finds it "far fetched" - I would have thought the same thing before all this happened. I hope nothing like this ever happens to you because I don't want anyone else to know first hand how this CAN AND DOES happen. FYI, an "investigation" can be limited to info. from one side. If you will note, once they heard BOTH sides it was dropped.

I feel for you. I was orig. from a smaller town in Indiana. My ex boyfriend had done the same thing to me. The cops use to follow me @ everywhere and pull me over for no reason. This town is really screwed up when it comes to law enforcement. It sucked, and I ended up moving. Not to say bad things about cops in general, I even work w/ them now. When you are from a smaller town I believe a great deal of shady _ _ _ _ goes on. Good Luck!

Actually, the cop could probably care less. He probably was running plates, ran yours, you came back with a warrant, and he pulled you over. His source was likely outdated. What took him so long was that he had to confirm it. In your case the charges were dropped or whatever. Even if dispatch or the computer says you have a warrant, the officer or someone has to check and see the hard copy, or go through another source. And he was disappointed because every cop wants to get someone with a warrant. That's like thinking you are going to Disneyland and then being taken to the dentist.

little bit of both. Small town idiots would be the only ones to do something like that. You have to understand though the police in the small town got very excited when they thought they might be able to catch a fugitive!! Notice He remembered you were wanted just by sight, but had no idea you had been cleared......shows what they focus on.

It is both small town idiots and police harassment. It is small town idiots using their minuscule power to harass you.
I am sorry this is happening to you. What a hassle. If they want to make your life miserable that is bad enough, but to do this to a child is unforgivable. Please at least try to talk to the chief of police to see if he can get the word around that you are NOT wanted.

If it was a serious warrant, he certainly didn't treat it as such (approaching you in front of a school)... and if it wasn't he certainly didn't act appropriately (approaching you in front of a school). I'd file a complaint, squawk loudly and make a few waves at the very least.
Some people shouldn't be given positions of authority, especially those with male peacock tendancies.

I would contact a media outlet regarding small town corruption. We live in the 21st Century. I would call your state's corruption office (or the attorney general) who would investigate this matter and bring the appropriate charges.

when is the last time you seen a cop doing anything good... i rest my case,,

I find it a bit far fetched that another person could get a police department to charge anyone unless an investigation is done!
