No matter the time, place, or mood my boyfriend can always make me laugh and smile. He always jokes around and makes whoever he is around feel good. Being in such a serious environment will that change? I know it makes them bigger and stronger men withe different respects than before, but will he still goof around and be the same man he was when he left?

No. Military training only strengthens certain skills and behaviours, personality remains intact.
He may have a different outlook on things as the training involces a lot of education on a wide variety of subjects.

I only know the Army aspect of it. He might change, but not drastically. He'll be alot more mature and responsible. Things will be taken a little bit more seriously than before. If he has a great sense of humor, that should remain. They need to laugh to relieve the stress. Just be patient and understanding in all situations. I've been married to it for 18 years and I still don't know everything about it. So, I just wait for moods or situations to pass.

Good luck and always support and be proud of him.

1. Now is your chance to get a way from this man.

2. Bootcamp will toughen him up, but you have your past ways of relating with eachother, that may bring out the bad in him again.

3. Be glad for him that he is getting help, but he won't have the crutch of that environment forever to lean on.

4. Go while the going is good.

Good luck and warm regards.

Very unlikely.
His humour will be invaluable in the forces and is a great outlet in stressful situations. He will now have many more personal stories to make you laugh with and a bigger variety since he will be living so closely with others.
Humour is almost a prerequisite in the forces.
It is not usually boot camp that changes people in the forces it is what they see after that.

My fiance did 13 years in the navy and he says yes. When he joins he may seem more with drawn and hold feelings in more and seem more distant. This isnt anything you have done. This is because the military will become a HUGE part of his personality. Ask yourself this .....if you went throught boot camp, would it change your personality?

Navy boot camp isn't all that intense. It certainly isn't like Marine Corps boot camp, his good nature should return, eventualy.

First though, these young guys have to get past themselves in terms of self importance. Many of them are ready to conquer the world, once out of training. They don't realize that it's just a numbers game. They are there to simply replace someone who's gotten out, or has been taken out.

you can wish....and hope for that remote dream

but in general military indoctrinates people to think differently first then physically trains them as well

there are positive aspects like disciplined living and accounting, but there are also negative aspects like you become a soldier not lover and must follow orders and acknowledge to be a dependante if married and must get drug along to all tours unless you want him gone by himself to all the ports and brothels by himself

see humorous article by major US paper about wives getting into a huff for wearing out local professional women. talk about repression!

Yes he will become a man not a kid. He will be even better than he was before with more confidence in himself. He will still be the joker don`t worry.
