I would pray for forgivness and for God to watch over my children and to keep them safe in His loving arms for the rest of their lives.

Even if that did happen you would not go to heaven. For the simple fact you can't just decide to sporadically ask God to forgive you cause you are dieing. For one God will know if it's from the heart or not or are you just asking to get a free ride. Everybody would probably talk to God before they die just encase there is heaven and hell they wouldn't want to end up in the latter. The thief that was on the cross with Christ I believe that he did go to heaven for the simple fact he became genuine at the last moment and came to accept Christ.

Even if you ask for forgiveness, don't you have to continue to sit there and finish dying?
I'll ask for forgiveness if/when I meet God. Otherwise I don't think I'm talking to anything but myself to try and clear my own guilt for the things I've done.

Depends if the prayer is serious or if your just afraid to die. Ultimately people think about God when it is just about too late to do anything decent. Such was the case with Jeffrey Daumer. The dude ate people... gets saved in death row; and is murdered like a few weeks later.
Did God forgive him? I think so. If he was sincere.
For those who would just die... what if your wrong? If we Christians are wrong... no harm done... but if your wrong... your soul hangs in a balance... not a pleasant place to be.

(What is this god you speak of?) I would consider it, because it would in no way harm me to ask forgiveness from something that doesn't exist, but then again, I don't think I could be sincere about it, and therefore, were there a god, I would not be "saved".

Nope. Don't believe for one second that god exists, and bleeding isn't going to change that. Besides, even if there was a god, I wouldn't be that interested in spending time with him if he'd reward that kind of hypocrisy.

or trying to take out an insurance policy on myself so my kids have money.

I would not pray to your Christian god. Instead, I would call upon the Roman Goddess Carmenta - known best as the Goddess of Childbirth, to aid me in sustaining my life.

dunno depends on how far gone i am. if you go into shock you arent coherant enough to make those decisions from my understanding. however if i knew i was dying and my time was short and i was coherant enough to make those decisions. i dont think its right to use religion as a sort of insurence. and i cant imagine god would be amused by people who know they are going to die and only pray and repend because its all there is left for them.

Why would I change the beliefs that I lived with for my entire life?
Do you really think your God would want someone who turned to Him only out of fear, and not out of love?
