This weekend I adopted 2 adorable 8wk old kittens. I live in a studio apartment that is about to be sprayed for pests. How dangerous is this? I don't want to move them again so soon, and I don't want to have the pest from everyone elses' apartments come to my apartment if I refuse to let them spray.

The kittens should not be in the apartment when the pest control work is done. Can they be shipped off to a friend or co-worker for the day or about 24 hours? If that's not possible board them at a vet's. They shouldn't charge you a lot for that as they will be in one cage together. It won't bother the kittens at all.

I would use the vet if the kittens need shots and worming. Have the vet do the job and just leave them there to board. The vet will understand why you are doing it.

Anytime you have major chemicals around it is dangerous for ANY animal, be it human, cat, dog, bird, amphibian, reptile and even fish. They tell you to take all of your pets with you. If you won't stay why should your babies? You never mentioned the type of pests. If your problem is rats/mice, you have already got the cure, your cats. If it is bugs, ie roaches or ants, there are much less invasive, and natural methods to control them. When in doubt it is best to go with your first instinct, which is to keep them from harm, so if it were up to me, I would opt out, and have them treat in the hall. By the way, if they are doing this while you are at work, and there is a gap of any sort around your door, find a place for them to stay, no less than 24 hrs. 48 is best as the poison will still enter your home. By 48 hrs, the chemical will have dissapated enough for you to not be affected and will not effect them as much. For bugs, I use electronic pest repellers that work quite well, and do not harm my cats. If you have a pet rat or mouse however, this will drive them insane!!! Remember, they ARE still babies, and though resiliant, still can be quite fragile. If you wouldn't do it to a child, don't do it to a pet!!! Good luck, and let me-us know how it turns out!!!

The kittens will be okay being moved and even if you keep them in your car with what they need. Maybe a friend would help you out.

The chemicals will kill them. Find an alternative and also get rid of your pests. Yuck!

Pesticides are fatal to animals!!! You're gonna have to take your kitties somewhere else for a few hours while your apt. is being sprayed. The fumes linger for a few hours and can be very dangerous not only to your kitties but to you as well.

It is deadly for them. Your kittens are not much bigger than rats and they love to lick the poison. Don't have the pesticide. Just ask that they do it in the hall outside your appartment. The pests will not come to you - hopefully - since they sense your cats. That's what I do. My cat kills any intruder.

I think anything that ends in "-icide" (-icide means “killer of” ) is dangerous to all living creatures.
