The Pope said Islam was a violent religion. In an effort to show their rage that somebody would dare call them violent, they proved him right by showing VIOLENCE. How smart!

Yup. I am no longer Catholic; but I give the Pope some honorable credit here. Smart man. Hope he does not back down and apologize.

We -- with Allah's help -- call on every Muslim who believes in Allah and wishes to be rewarded to comply with Allah's order to kill the Americans and plunder their money wherever and whenever they find it. ok.. i know you have so closed mind about Islam and Muslims ..but any way do think it was a right to Say that in this time ...it was the memory of 9/11 and the War in Lebanon and Iraq.....how he could say that in so dangerous time and he must be reasonable man?? the only one he was helped by his wards are Ossam Bin Laden and his followers....because he ensured their believes about that the West World ' s fighting and hating to Islam and Muslims.....now i can not find any difference between Pope and Ossama Bin Laden..they both increase the hate and the misunderstanding...and do not tell me Pope do not kill Innocent people like Ossama....because the Pope 's words are able to kill too...any way i advice Pope to stop care about Islam and cared only with his own problems...we all know the problems of the Catholic faith...and how they lose people every day ..people who refused to believe all these lies about the nature of prophet Jesus...ask him to read Da Vinic Code and why this novel makes all these success...and why the only way to win a new members in Catholic Church now ..is attracting the poor people in Africa and Asia by all the ways....and although he criticized the Islam...every day now a new people in USA,Europa and in all the world believe in Islam by their own well and by only the mental convincing.....at the end we all human beings we all do faults...and the Pope are not exception..

Having read the whole speech, I really fail to see how a 600 year old quotation describing Muslims as evil and inhumane is at all appropriate in the context of this speech. It just seems to be a dig at Prophet Mohammad to me, and to all of us.
It is also funny that you have chosen to quote a Byzantine emperor whose family had to flee Constantinople due to the attacks by the crusaders. Even in the 15th century attempts at starting a Latin crusade failed as "the Greeks thought that the Byzantine civilization which was centered at the Orthodox faith would be more secure under Ottoman rule, and preferred to sacrifice their political freedom in order to preserve their religion" --- extracted from wikipedia
It is also a fact that far more non-believers have been killed by Christians than any other world religion…!!!
The Church has no right to point a finger at any religion after all the blood-stained conversions in South America and after the coercion of the church by Hitler's regime to exterminate Jews.
Your quotation was an essential part of Christian propaganda to justify the crusades with no basis of truth. A closer look at history will show you how great tolerance was shown by Muslim rulers to other religions.
