You may have spyware slowing you down. I use a spyware blocker and remover called Ad Aware. It's free and you can get get it from lavasoft.com. You can also do a search for spyware remover or spyware software and find many other free programs to download.

it also depends on how many icons you have on your desktop screen. and how many programs are starting up when you turn your laptop on.

i use a program called system mech pro 6

even tho you defragged and did a disc clean up...you can still have ad-ware/virus/trojan/spyware installed...which you will need to download or buy a programs to look for those malacious software and delete it...
go to lavasoft...get ad-aware se...awesome free program!!
