I'm not sure on the current standards for the US Military, check the hyperlink on the first response.
WHY does the Military not accept those who don't hold a Diploma or GED (USMC in the 90's required a High School Diploma)??
In the 90's, following the fall of the Soviet Union and the subsequent down-sizing of the the US Military (AND the budget), the military had fewer openings, yet a vast selection of applicants for enlistment.
WHY would the military wish to spend THEIR budget funds and time on putting an uneducated enlistee through schooling to bring their reading or math level up to that needed to perform.
Pick the enlistee with a diploma... and often a year or two of community college under their belt.
Gone are the days when the Army just needed people who could simply stand, march, and go in the direction pointed.
The weapons and systems today require the soldier, sailor or airman be able to read the manuals, use the systems, and think.
Except of course for those Misguided Children of Uncle Sam (USCM)... sorry Marines... HAD to take the shot... it's just nature.

With a GED, you certainly can enlist in the US military! There has been talk about the standards being relaxed so that those who haven't finished high school can also join up. Call the local recruiting office in your area, they will be happy to answer your questions.

My husband had to get his GED before he could join the Navy. The military does not just allow anyone to join. They want people that are motivated.

No, because you need some sort of education, plus why should they take you if they know that you dropped out of school, you'd probably drop out of the military too. The military doesn't want quitters.

I dont think any serivce will take someone who doesn't have a high school diploma or equivalent. If you can't stick through high school, how can you be expected to ensure the mission gets completed?
