kitten with worms?

Question

Adpoted a kitten from Womens Humane Society a few weeks back. Ive taken her back for her 2nd set of shots 2 wks ago & her 3rd set of shots is next wk. The vet checked a stool sample, he said she didnt have any signs of worms/worm eggs. I notice tho after she uses the litter box there will be one under her tail - small white looks like a grain of rice & moves when I grab it with a tissue. If she takes a cat-nap somewhere, when she gets up there will be something similar in that spot- only it doesnt move & is like an off-white color. I told this to the vet at the clinic but he said she was ok since everything was clean. PS: This isnt all the time either, I'll find about 1 or 2 a day. Her belly is a little round, but shes been like that since we adpoted her.
My main concern is I have a dog too & I don’t want her getting worms from kitten (they sleep together/share water bowls) & she sleeps in our bed. I'm going to ask for her to be de-wormed next week, but until then??

These are tapeworms and won't necessarily show up in a stool examination. It's no big deal and they are easily treated.
Call your vet, let them know you've seen tapes and they'll give you a dose of Cestex or Droncit (whatever they prefer). You'll have to repeat the dosing in three weeks. It's best to dose all your pets, because they can spread.

Our cats get this also every once and a while. I just go to the pet store and get the wormer. Its cheaper than having the vet do it. It seems like the only time the vet will actually see any worms is when they have a large infestation. If your kitten is younger than 6 weeks old then you will have to wait but if not then just go to the pet store and get worm medication. Also keep a close eye on your dog. Don't let the kitten sleep in your bed until you've wormed it. Just in case.

The routine worming that is done with kittens is for round worms. What you are describing sounds like a tape worm which comes from fleas. She might have gotten one before she came into your life. I cannot imagine a vet not listening to you about this. Really go at it strongly and get the pill to rid the kitten of the tapeworm when she goes for her next shot.

It is not terribly dangerous for her to have it for a little while longer. What you see are not live worms, simply segments that the tapeworm sheds. Not really transferable to you or the dog.

Sounds like a tape worm, I have had cats and dogs with them. Just get her wormed with something like Dronsid when you go to the vets. It takes care of tape worms in dogs and cats. Get a table for your dog while you are at the vets. I usually pay about 4 dollars a tablet.

Get some meds from the vet. Also, have you checked to see if your cat has fleas? Fleas are parasites. When kittens groom themselves, they may ingest a flea and therefore may get worms. So, you might want to consider buying Frontline or asking the vets opinion.

I would defianlly get all the animals wormed ASAP you can usually just call and they will give you some pills that will get rid of them in one use. They will have a bowel movement and should be good to go.

Kittens must be treated with Banminth paste repeatedly, according to the instructions on the box. Not Drontal at this age.

She has worms. They are very easily traeted with a singel pill. Talk to the vet.

deffinatly get her de-wormed, maybe even look into a new vet if you can tell there are worms and he/she can't. ask about if you should have your dog de-wormed as well
