I usually get my iron from a variety of foods. Vegetables are notoriously tough to get iron from. They do contain iron, but they aren't easily digested.

I tend to get it from cream of Wheat, chillis, and power bars. Each of these foods is fortified with easy to digest iron. I like the meat substitutes (for the most part) so that's another source.

If I feel I am lagging in the iron department, I usually take a multi-vitamin with minerals (Centrum and Theragram M are both good sources).

Also, be sure you drink / take in Vitamin C while eating an iron-rich meal as it helps absorb the iron. Calcium, on the other hand, blocks the absorption.

Anything green and leafy has iron. The darker the shade of green, the more iron it will have. Spinach is really a better source of iron than most meat, so that would be my suggestion. It's easy to incorporate it into salads or sandwiches raw, which is better for keeping as many vitamins and minerals as possible, or it's delicious cooked in with vegetarian lasagna and other dishes. With the e.coli scare right now, I would just advise sticking to the farmer's market where you can get local crops that won't have the e.coli.

I'm not actualy quite sure where my iron comes from. I've been a vegy for about 25 years and I've never missed meat. I guess I must get minerals including iron mainly from a general selection of vegetables, green ones in particular.

I've never realy bothered about it and I think I'm in good health so just eat a good selection of natural vegetables and you should be ok.

Multi-Vitamin mostly. But if you want it from foods, try dark green vegatables like spinich (well, not right now I guess). That sucks that you can't eat nuts cause they are a really good source too. If I were you I'd look into a multi-vitamin. Then you never have to worry about B12 or Calcium either.

Spinach has a lot of iron, of course now there are a lot of scary things happening in the spinach world. I know that beets are very rich in iron.
