I'm pretty open to new things, especially toys and what not. However, I can understand how a HUGE toy can make the partner upset/intimidated because the guy could think the woman needs something bigger to be pleasured.
I encourage usage of toys/accessories; however, what is encouraged shouldn't be necessary or relied upon.

Actually I encourage and purchase as many toys for my honey as possible.
Sex in a marriage is about giving to a woman - that's it - there's no personal gain for a man having sex in a marriage.
With that said, you gotta do anything your honey wants you to do to please her - anything!
