Right now, I would just sit down and discuss marriage with him first. Leave subtle hints. Ask about where he thinks your relationship is headed. Talk about settling down, raising kids, career stuff...
Not trying to be old fashioned here... but a marriage proposal is just one of those really traditional things that a guy should do. Also, if he hasn't already asked and hasn't left hints that he's going to ask in the near future... its a pretty indicative sign that he's not ready for marriage. And I think it'd be a LOT healthier for your relationship if you guys talked about it before hand... rather than put him under the gun and force him to make a decision that you might REALLY not want to hear.
Just my 2 cents. =T

I kind of did. We've lived together for about 3 years, so we're pretty much married anyways... but, we've talked about getting engaged for awhile now (we both had some growing up to do first), and we were looking at rings together and I picked one and we got it. It was more me than it was him, even though no one officially asked anyone.
When it was delivered, he did get down on one knee and ask me before I actually wore the ring, which was nice.
As you can tell, we don't like tradition! We're also having a destination wedding, and I'm having my brother be a "bridesman."
You can do whatever you're comfortable with! Esepcially if the two of you have talked about it in the past and you feel that he is ready.

No men should propose to a woman...if the man hasnt asked yet then there must be some issue in the relationship that is preventing him, and if the girl asks it usually makes the guy feel like he has to say yes. I had a girl do that to me and I said no...the reason..I just didn't want to spend the rest of my life with her.

I think it's great and brave for any girl to propose to their man. However, I'm a bit old fashion myself and I think that the man should propose to his girl.

Yes, if we were together for over a year and he showed no signs of proposing, I would do it. If he refused, I would end the relationship because it would be a waste of my time.

I proposed to my boyfriend and we've been happily married for the last 5 years. I just asked him if he wanted to go to vegas and get married real quick and he said yeah.

If you think that he's on the same page and it's a stable and steady relationship, which you know you both want to take to another level - then go for it! That's if he hasn't proposed first!

Get a pair of panties and write would you marry me on the front of them and sew a string below it and tie a ring to it. Then plan a romantic night, a dinner at a nice restaurant, followed by a room at a nice bed & breakfast. When the time is right change in them panites and suprise hime.
