I was curious as to the number of people who actually knew what Wicca, or Witchcraft for that matter, really is. This is for everybody, as I know that Non-religious, or Non-Pagan may be fully aware of what they are.

Dr Zoom Zoom; I was not looking for justification to my beliefs, I was simply curious as to how many people are actually Pagan, since most of the questions asked on this category are mostly by Xtians, Muslims and Atheists. I was also curious as to whether Non-Pagans knew about what it is. I know I will get flames from some people, though I am not trying to get them. People have different beliefs, and that in itself can cause friction between them.

I think perhaps I phrased the question wrong. I do know what Wicca is, and I'm not looking for information. I just wanted to know if others knew about it; mainly Non-Pagans. I know that fellow Wiccans/Witches will know about, and this question was not a ploy to make friends.

wiccachicka - I really haven't explained this question right. I wasn't looking to cause an argument, I just wanted to know what people think. I don't mean to offend anyone, or incite any form of hatred or misunderstanding.

Wicca is a neo-Pagan religion that may-or-may-not have been based upon folks traditions in England, publicized (and either created or revitalized) by Gerald Gardner in the mid-20th century. It's often called "neo-Pagan Witchcraft" due to its usage of some of the typical European witchcraft techniques; however, that is a co-opting of a term that it does not have sole rights to.

Non-Wiccan Witchcraft is a collection of folk magic and other traditions that may (but not neccessarily) include religious elements, or even a full-fledged religous structure. Typically refers to European-derived traditions, but can also be applied as a more anthropological term to traditions from other locales (much like indigenous tribal spirit workers are often called shaman.)

Yes I do know what it is. Do you know what it is? It means being initiated into a real coven, not simply buying a book from Llewellyn and deciding you're a witch.

Then what was it a ploy to start arguments with xtians???
I'm confused. Usually that's what questions like yours do. You ask "for everyone" to answer then are surprised when you don't get flamed, so obviously that's you wanted. And frankly, they give me a headache, with all the bickering, so please don't encourage arguments.
