VERY normal. I started out hyper and after ending up taking 28 pills a day trying to get it back down, we decided to do the radioactive iodine treatment which dissolves all but a couple percent of your thyroid. I have to take the thyroid medicine for the rest of my life to trick my body into thinking it's still there. I am now on .100 mcg of Synthroid per day. I have to have bloodwork about every 6 mos to keep track of it. Good Luck!

Your doctor is probably adjusting your thyroid medication on one test called the TSH. Your TSH was probably low, so he/she lowered your dose. The TSH is a fine test to use if you are on a med like Levoxyl or Synthoid and you feel good. However, if you still have hypo symptoms no matter what dose you are on, then your doctor should be doing a free t3 and free t4 test. These tests show how much t3 or t4 hormone is available for your body to use. Many people have a low free t3 and that shows you may need t3 in addition to the T4 that you are currently taking. There's no need today to suffer with thyroid symptoms for hypothyroidism when there are so many different types of medications.

Hi,

I have 2 sisters with thyroid problems. One has Hyper-Thyroidism (overactive) and the other has Hypo-Thyroidism (under-active). It is completely normal to have your medication adjusted, and your levels should be tested periodically just for that reason.

On another interesting note, I recently read that people with thyroid problems are very intuitive in life, and that they develop thyroid issues because of the lack of ability to express themselves.

You should take a look at this book called:
Awakening Intuition by Mona Lisa Shulz. I think you might find it helpful with your situation.

I have hypothyroidism, and it took 2 years before my TSH leveled out. I have now been on the same dosage for 4 years.

I have hypothyroid. They adjust the levels to TSH levels. I used to take more than I do now.
