Our 7 month old pekingese has the horniness of a man who took an overdose of viagara, but his peanuts have not descended? Does it take longer than 7 months?

I forgot to add that we have an 8 year old female that we never got spayed, cuz we never thought we would end up having more than one dog. It was ignorant on our part, but I am just concerned about her getting pregnant. How old are they before there body won't get pregnant anymore?

TORBAYNEW!!!!! I am not a dog breeder, and I won't pass things on to other animals. I don't even believe in breeding!!! So, don't sit there and judge me. I am only asking a question on behalf of my puppy, out of concern for both of my dogs.

Just called my vet. He said they should have descended already. But, even so, because of cancer concerns, I should still have him neutered. Thanks to everyone who DID NOT judge me and were trying to help. I got my answer, and wanted to share it, in case anyone else reading this has the same problem. Thanks to all...

Torbay, my question does not have anything whatsoever to do with breeding. I was asking a simple question about my puppy. I could be a heinz 57 for all I care. I just want to do what is right for my puppy. I have no intention of getting him breeded at all. 8 years ago when I got my Cassie, I did not know enough about cancer related diseases and getting her fixed. This was my fault, but it is not about her. We have her on a leash at all times, not like some dogs that wonder about. We know where our two little dogs are at at all times. Get off your high horse, and stop thinking you are the king or queen of all breeders.

They should be descended by now. Most males have them descended by the time they are 10 weeks old.
He will need to be neutered since given the high rate of testicular cancer in intact males to begin with, the risk goes through the roof with undescended testicles. Also undescended testicles is an inheritable trait.

To the person that posted the stuff about AKC papers and nobody being able to register, ruining the line, etc etc..that is NOT true. It doesn't matter in the least and not to be rude but IF you are going to ever breed you need to know your facts and you also need to know how to correctly spell the name of the breed you are chosing to breed. In addition you need to know about breeding , whelping, newborn care, registration info, pedigrees, health issues within your breed, etc. I also suspect a vet didn't tell you not ot have surgery done to remove the testicles. I've worked in the vet field for 34 years and I don't know of a single vet that would ever recommend not getting undescended testicles removed, quite the contrary they would be telling you to set up an appointment soon. If a vet ever did recommend not to do surgery (and there was no legit medical reason) then I certainly would question their credentials and would be looking for a new vet ASAP!!

No. You need to get the boy neutered. they are normally down at 8 weeks. He should not be bred anyway, since this is a genetic problem and can be passed on. He is probably sterile due to the fact that the TESTICLES are too hot inside the body. They also have a higher chance of cancer and that is why vets remove any testicles that do not descend.
See the vet!!

If they do drop after a YEAR, the dog still should NOT be used for breeding!!!! This is why there is a problem in a lot of breeds!!! It is passed on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
See the vet, he will tell you the chance that they will drop.
I know tow Peke breeders, and they breed show quality dogs and do not have breeding stock that does not have testicles that have not descended by 3 months. Don't pass on more crap to other puppies.

Doxielove is WAY OUT THERE!!! Just because you got AKC papers, does not mean the dog was breeding quality!! And if you register a dog with undescended testicles, NOTHING happens!!!!!!!!! They are totally registerable!!!! They just should NOT be bred!!!! They are still able to be shown in performance events.
And if your vet told you there was no need to remove the testicles after three years because the dog was not in pain, GET A NEW VET!!!!!! The chance is SO much higher that they will become cancerous, that vet will say to have the dog neutered. If your did not, he is WRONG and putting your dog at risk!!!!!!!!

UNSPAYED female because you though you would never have more than one dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And you do not believe in breeding??????? Then you SHOULD believe in spaying!!!!!!!!!
Hope she doesn't get out by accident, or end up getting a PYO!!!!

I had the same problem with my AKC doxen, i paid full papers and stuff for him knowing that i would be able to breed him or show him later inlife. THen came to find a few months down the line when i got my 2nd doxen that my 2nd doxen already had his decended and the 1st hadn't yet. I took him to the vet the next day, and unluckily he will be sterile, won't be able to breed or anything. I was very upset over this but in the end he is a good dog! My dog is 3yrs old now and still has not descended his yet, my vet told me not to worry, my dog is in no pain and is a happy dog, so surgery is not an issue. If the dog is in pain then surgery is probable. Just to let you know though, that if you have a pup that has AKC papers, and they have descended testicles, do not register that dog, becasue if you do, it bannes the whole blood line of the dog, and other people with that family line won't be able to get papers due to the genetic defect. This was told to me by my vet.

Cryptorchidism is a condition in which one or both testicles do not descend into the scrotum. However, your dog can reach maturity anywhere from 6 months to a year. Give it until a year, and then after a year and 1 month, I would take him to the vet.

However, if you are going to neuter him, you don't have to wait. 6 months is ample age to neuter your dog. They will still take them out.

His testicles should have dropped by now.
Since retained testilces often end up cancerous you should have him neutered. It will cost a bit more and he will have many stiches in his tummy but for his safety and health you should have it done. It may also help out the with Viagra overdose problem.
Good luck.

You need to get it checked at the vet he may be crypted. Usually by 7 months they are dropping. They may not be big but there should be something there.

all dogs are different. my chihuahua only had one for the longest time, probably close to year and then one day there it was. don't worry about it to much. if you have serious concerns call a vet and ask them.
