Both of our cakes (bride's and groom's) for 70 people - $500.

Bride's cake - white cake with raspberry mousse filling, 4 tiers (some faux)

Groom's cake - dark chocolate liquor cake with chocolate shavings, 14" square

We did a tasting at the bakery and I'm totally looking forward to the cake. We felt it was important to have a cake that TASTED good, as well as LOOKED good. I ordered another cake from this bakery for another event and it was fabulous, too.

We are expecting to have cake left over, but we also have contingency plans for it. ::grin::

My wedding cake is being given to me as a gift from my best friend, who is a professional baker. She is trying to start up a new wedding cake business and wanted to know if she could just take pictures of it and use me as a reference for future customers. Of course i said yes.

Full cakes (the ones that are tiered and cake on all levels) are more expensive than the ones that are only real on the top layer (there are two other sheet cakes in the back cut up for guests).
The full cakes can run you anywhere from 300-3000 depending on the flavor, filling, design and who you use.

If you are looking for a cheaper but nice cake, i say have your bakery use the tiered cake that is fake on the bottom layers and real on top. With or without filling. Have the top layer be real and two sheet cakes for the guests.

(side suggestion) Check with the littler known bakers in your area who might be willing to give you a discount if you agree to allow them to take pics or use you as a reference! You never know- one may even give it to you for half off!

Check your area cake decorators and ask them for prices (it is almost always done by the person/slice ratio) and the price vary drastically by regions (example: New York wedding costs are about 10x that of Nebraska wedding costs)
In my town cakes range from $1.25/slice to about $3.00/slice.

More important though is that the decorator will allow you to sample thier cakes (multiple small sample slices etc) if they wont, MOVE ON. You need to be able to know what you are getting before you give them money.

(Average cost of a cake @ 100 guests: $125 - $300)

It was $250 for 120 guests. And that included a $25 birthday cake (they overcharged us).

It's a three-layered square cake with fondant stripes. We decided against the groom's cake because one is enough. We do have three flavors, but that didn't cost extra.

We REALLY searched for the right cake place. This cake is BEAUTIFUL for us.

In the end we aren't going to remember the cake or how great it tasted. Instead we're going to remember the memoires of the wedding itself. :-)

$250 served 80. I got one bite.

Never order as much cake as the bakery says.

My cake was made to serve 80, 50 showed (30 RSVP'd no showed) and as usual, not everyone eats cake. There was a ton left over. Our top for saving tasted like dirt when thawed out the next year. Big waste of money.

If I did it all over I would just make sure I had a pretty cake and not bother so much about flavors and fillings.

My niece's cake was for 400 people and here where we live we are charged $1.00 per slice so we paid $400.00 . We did have a good 400 people at the party but not everyone ate cake and we had way too much cake left. I suggest that if you are expecting 300 people get cake for about 250. Peace and love your way.

Depends of the amount of people. I make wedding cakes. The average cost in my area ( midwest) is $2.00-$5.00 per person.

I dont suggest spending $10,000.00 on a cake. No one will remember ten years from now what the cake tasted like. Most of the time they are dry with crisco frosting anyway.

Good luck

Mine was a gift otherwise I would have hade eveyone bring a cake like they used to do in the old days (that's why they have tiered cakes @ weddings)
