It's mostly in self-defense, actually. It's in reaction to all the bible thumpers trying to whack us over the head. Especially when the bible thumpers do stuff that affects our lives - like determining what our kids should be taught, and banning research that could save lives.
Then there are all the minor nuisances that don't seem like such a big deal, but are irritating anyway. How would you like it if you had to swear oaths in court on the Koran? Or if coins all said "In Krishna we trust"? Or if you had to pledge allegiance to one nation under Santa Claus? I'm not the type of atheist who goes on crusades against that type of stuff, but it's still irritating.
I know plenty of christians who don't go around trying to run my life, and who don't try converting me. I don't even bring up religion as a topic with them unless they bring it up first. As a result, we get along just wonderfully - they're good people, and they recognize that I'm a good person too. However, anyone who tries to convert me is liable to get a warning that they don't want to go there - and if they persist, I have no qualms about telling them things they probably don't want to hear.

Maybe it's because Christians are running this country with only their beliefs in mind. That is bullshit. So once an Atheist is in control who would only concentrate on the people and not the bible, and fundies stop lurking in the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgendered section, then I'd stop hanging around.

Actually, what we need to be doing for the atheists is witnessing to them.Regardless of what they might say it is our duty a a christian to witness to them and tell them about the true love of god and how great it is to know he has prepared a place for us in his kingdom, but we must also tell them the wrath that is to come.We are not to rule them with a sword like Islam.God forbids it.Sometimes it takes a reality check to let them know there is more to life than what you can hear or see.
Funny thing is,all the answers they need is in the bible, but they don't believe in that either. It's a shame that they have to be deceived by the devil so blatantly.

It's like teasing people that believe in Santa Claus still...
You ask a question and then secretly snicker because you know all the answers are going to find some way for them to support their claim Santa still exists.

I'm not trying to disprove his existance or change anyone's beliefs. That's not up to me.
I'm just trying to understand various viewpoints, and gain a little knowledge and insight as to how people think.

I guess every single theist will have to ask this question.
None of them seem competent enough to realize the existence of the little completion bar when they are writing a question.
If you want my answer, go look it up in the history. Every atheist here has already answered it at least a half-dozen times.

I am a Christian, but that is a very good question! Seems when I don't believe in something I don't believe and I let it go. But the one thing with God he is real and he is in every ones soul they are trying to figure it out most of the time.

Because so many people use god as an excuse to do terrible things. The belief in god is a dangerous thing and it needs to stop.

I don't 'disprove' him. I just object to your supposed proofs citing that they lack in relevance, thought, and acutal scientific evidence.
That's proof enough. I'm here because it's fun to watch what people say and think to certain questions and hypothetical scenarios.
