just like Vietnam and WWII, all should be part of a conflict, if this war of choice is legit why don't we stop piddling around and start with the Bush twins...war would be over by Friday

for you war hawks, already did my time, 3 combat rotations, 3 expeditions to middle east, life spent mech. inf and cavalry

actually with Iran and Venezuela getting all cozy, looks like we spent our forces energy in a place that didn't threaten us and let these guys (also world leaders in oil production) become strong enough to threaten oil to be sold in Euros and jack up our oil prices again. Notice the price went down recently....see how high oil prices bankrupts the US..and you wonder what the strategy is here..

not that hidden...not at all Hegemony. what a concept

A draft implies that an insufficient number of people believe in a war to sacrifice their lives for it. Gen. Harry Summner made that very point in his critique of American war conduct in Viet Nam, "On Strategy." (Read it; it's good.)

There are women that are deployed overseas, though in the rear in support units. The big major thing, I think, about having a draft is the logistics involved. Also, as a vet, I would rather have someone why volunteered to go, and that was properly trained, than someone who was drafted, rushed through training, and probably doesn't give a crap about being there. I think it is awfully pathetic that only a handful of congressmen/women have children in the military. According to the article(from two years ago, so don't know if the number changed) there are only 8 legislators that have children in the military. So yeah, start with the Bush twins, but do you think daddy Bush would care?

There are two reasons:
1. It's politically not sensible. Everything is politics to politicians.
2. The U.S. has since the 1980's been trying to reduce the number of soldiers because of cost. If they wanted more troops, they should not have been reducing the number of troops and closing bases.

As far as oil goes, the higher the cost, the more affordable the alternative energy. Right now it's cheaper to turn coal into gasoline than oil. Montana (holds 1/3 of the U.S. coal) plans on making gasoline refineries. China also has a large quantity of coal (they were the number one exporter). Chevron also did some deep sea drilling and might have increased the U.S. supply of oil by 15%.

Well, you do have a point. If we had followed the Powell Doctrine and gone in with at least five times as many troops as we did, we would have overthrown the government, crushed the will of the populace, and, much like the Borg, made it clear that "Resistance is futile." Instead, this war from the very beginning has been fought as if our leaders want us to be humiliated and to lose badly. Fight to win or get out. Our nation's greatest military blunders have always resulted from those who think we can do something in between.

This the most over asked question in this group. So please stop asking!!!!
A draft is not needed, nor does the military want the headaches it brings. The money and time needed to train & equip such a force is too costly. We don't need 2 million for a 150,000 man job. The long term solution is to train the Iraqis and then let them do the job.

The other short solution is females. End the ban on females in infantry. The Army's problem is that to many of its troops are female. Thus we you over & over again.

A justifiable War. This war (God Bless Our Soldiers) does not hold water. If this country was in real immediate danger the draft would pass. Instead many Vets are getting the backdoor draft.

I am also a Vet.

Then as a prior military person you know why we have not started a draft. We don't need it. Look at the recruitment numbers and we are meeting or exceeding them. Why start a draft when there is no need for one. Most of the kids today would be too fat anyway.

There will be. This war is a drop in the bucket compared to where we are headed. Every one I have talked to believes we are in the beginning of world war three. This time it will take everyone to fight it.

Thanks for your service, I'm a vet as well, A-bone! Be thankful for your training, I know I am! Don't worry, tho, jihad will bring this fight to a town near us and we won't have to fight alone, will ALL be involved!

As for oil prices, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

BTW .. Drafting the Bush twins won't change anything.. you ought to know that.
