Why not make all employers call that social security toll free number that verifies that worker? Some already to that and it works.

I think employers are the enemy not the illegals. The employers want the cheap labor.

I agree.I once worked at a place where they would hire a 20 year old with a 50 year olds ID and social security number. They also treated all their employees very badly including myself and about 5 other whites because they could get away with it.Long hours sometimes16 or 18 hour shifts and no AC or heat.No overtime pay either.I think that Mexicans really need to work on making their own country a success economically. They can only do this if they get rid of corrupt law inforcement and start making Mexico into a real tourist Mecca like Las Vegas.IT would only work if they made the streets safe .A tourist attraction like vegas with security and Gambling ,amusement parks hotels and shows it could be awsome like Hawai and vegas put together. However tourism to Mexico has dropped due to violence.I think the problems have to be solved by Mexicans reinvesting in Mexicos future instead of running away. We cannot solve Mexicos problems. We dont have room for them all here either,They are going to have to do it through political and investment avenues. If they wanted to they could make Mexico into a tourist goldmine but it seems they have all given up and run for the border.

Employers are merely a small portion of the problem. All illegals MUST be deported, ALL borders MUST be locked down. I do not think this is a debatable issue any longer. It is an epidemic, it is destroying the United States from within, and it is almost too late. We cannot depend on the politicians because they count on that portion of the vote, it is high time we utilized our rights and privileges as legal US citizens and start building militia's, like the Minutemen, to protect our borders, aid our overburdened border patrol and terrorized border citizens.

That's only a partial solution. If I remember correctly, the verification is only to see if the SS number is a valid number, not that it matches the person using it (I could be wrong on that one).

I'm sure there are plenty of employers that pay illegals under the table.

Then of course, there's the issue of having 10+ million people already here. Somebody has to come up with a solution on how to deal with that one. I suppose that if you crack down on employers, the jobs will dry up but you'd also have to deal with people who already are employed.

It's a long-term, compound problem. America has evolved socially and economically, Mexico and other nations have not.
Since we got and they don't, they're at our door, asking to move in. And, some employers are making BANK off of that. Reform's gonna be a real *****, but not impossible...

Yes, all they want is cheap labor. But right now all they have to do is show two paper forms of ID to be "legal". There are no laws to confirm whether someone is legal or not by calling a phone number or plugging into a database.

So true but the Gov guys are in bed with em'
If you run a bank and just let the robbers come in and take your money, who's fault is it?
Yah! It's the robbers on one level, then it's the Bank's fault.

A gov. that allows this sort of thing to go on or makes it legally permissable after the fact and at the expense of it's citizens or patrons, is a corrupt government and needs to be changed out.
There's lots of evidence that somethings may be/ are being done but it remains to be seen if there will be follow through after the November elections. Frankly, I have my doubts.

At the end of WWI and WWII, we rounded up and deported millions of illegals in order to provide jobs for returning servicemen. Contrary to the doomsday predictions by illegal immigrant proponents, the economy benefited.

Our country is being invaded by millions of people who openly express a lack of loyalty along with a lack of respect. The real war is here and we need to begin this process again.

Free enterpise will naturally look for the cheapest labor it can find.

Yes It can be fixed but washington needs these illegals now and when they don't they will get tough and tighten the noose on employers. If illegals can't get jobs they will go back to mexico on their own problem solved. No incentive no illegals

Perhaps if the laws already on the books were followed we would have theses problems.

Section 274 felonies under the federal Immigration and Nationality Act, INA 274A(a)(1)(A):

A person (including a group of persons, business, organization, or local government) commits a federal felony when she or he:

* assists an alien s/he should reasonably know is illegally in the U.S. or who lacks employment authorization, by transporting, sheltering, or assisting him or her to obtain employment, or

* encourages that alien to remain in the U.S. by referring him or her to an employer or by acting as employer or agent for an employer in any way, or

* knowingly assists illegal aliens due to personal convictions.

Penalties upon conviction include criminal fines, imprisonment, and forfeiture of vehicles and real property used to commit the crime. Anyone employing or contracting with an illegal alien without verifying his or her work authorization status is guilty of a misdemeanor. Aliens and employers violating immigration laws are subject to arrest, detention, and seizure of their vehicles or property. In addition, individuals or entities who engage in racketeering enterprises that commit (or conspire to commit) immigration-related felonies are subject to private civil suits for treble damages and injunctive relief.

Recruitment and Employment of Illegal Aliens
It is unlawful to hire an alien, to recruit an alien, or to refer an alien for a fee, knowing the alien is unauthorized to work in the United States. It is equally unlawful to continue to employ an alien knowing that the alien is unauthorized to work. Employers may give preference in recruitment and hiring to a U.S. citizen over an alien with work authorization only where the U.S. citizen is equally or better qualified. It is unlawful to hire an individual for employment in the United States without complying with employment eligibility verification requirements. Requirements include examination of identity documents and completion of Form I-9 for every employee hired. Employers must retain all I-9s, and, with three days' advance notice, the forms must be made available for inspection. Employment includes any service or labor performed for any type of remuneration within the United States, with the exception of sporadic domestic service by an individual in a private home. Day laborers or other casual workers engaged in any compensated activity (with the above exception) are employees for purposes of immigration law. An employer includes an agent or anyone acting directly or indirectly in the interest of the employer. For purposes of verfication of authorization to work, employer also means an independent contractor, or a contractor other than the person using the alien labor. The use of temporary or short-term contracts cannot be used to circumvent the employment authorization verification requirements. If employment is to be for less than the usual three days allowed for completing the I-9 Form requirement, the form must be completed immediately at the time of hire.
