A 'Creationist' argument against evolution is that they claim (incorrectly, but why bother with evidence) there are no links between species. A type of shark that walks on its fins has been found near Indonesia; I say score one for evolutionary theory. Your opinions and comments, please. Is this a missing link which can help discredit Creationist doctrine?

Not THE fabled Missing Link between ape and man. Sorry -- been spending too much time reading creationist arguments lately, forgot that the rest of the world hears the words differently.

I just love the person who felt the need to insult my intelligence because I used a "Yo"; what sorts of prejudices and presumptions are going on there?

There's no use dude. The fundies will just say, "Well they also said they found a shrimp that looks like a PRAYING manthis. One for Creationism!"

But I love hearing about newly discovered species.

I like the spots on the shark. It walks on four fins, Would you agree that they have to be dogs first, then horse and then monkeys before being human?
Whatever it is that we saw on television, may have the answer to the missing link but to where that shark is suppose to link it is still uncertain.
If you really insist that we came from ape, this is the creationist answer. In time He is looking for suitable creature to be made in to man, He has the shapes and form of every living creature on earth. He has found the shape that could well serve His purpose so He breath life into that form and became man. Without the breath of life which is the spirit of righteousness of God, He is just a creature like the beasts. What He created in that shape is His intelligence that will help Him sustain the earth developments that will please Him as He finds it to be good.
Do not look at the doctrine of the creationists in the time it was written when man still struggles to learn from his infancy. There is no real conflict with your belief, there is just a conflict between Creationist who still continuously hang themselves from ignorance because that is where the religions has found a way to control human minds and the man who has freed himself from the bondage of ignorance like you. Now it is your duty to wake those people and lift them up to your level of understanding and not to bring them down.

i don't see how this has anything to do with evolution yes it is a fish that can walk on its fins so what it is not a fish that has walked out of the sea and started to breath air like a land animal! God made all sorts of creatures many of which are extint today. the fact that a shark can walk on its fins is nothing special if you consider dinosaurs. i would be interested to know if it has to be constantly moving like other sharks and i hope and pray the fisherman don't cause it to become extint as man has done to many of God's amazing and beautiful creatures.

This discredits Creationist doctrine???
That's a reach. Missing link?? How about a discovery of a shark that crawls around on its fins?? Do you honestly think that we know about all life in the ocean? When one is discovered, it's got to be a "missing link"??

I don't think it's appropriate to call any currently living animal a "missing link", as it's currently the end product of evolution, not a "transition" in the sense that we know what its future evolutionary path looks like.

But anyone who doesn't think there are tons and tons of evolutionary transitions in the fossil record is ignoring a mountain of evidence. See links.

It has long been true that the "creationists", having made up their minds, prefer not to let themselves be confused by anything as inconvenient as a fact. I have a proof that evolution is correct (which is unusual, in that most scientific theories are unproveable), which I will relate to anyone interested who contacts me via avatar.

Its a new species of shark that is all. Scientist find new species everyday it doesn't prove evolution. Its just a fish that can walk on his fins, they also found monkeys recently... there not NEW they have been here for years and mankind is just finding out about them.

And your evidence linking this walking shark to evolution is .... what? An abc news article? Honey, neither the word "evolution" nor the word "evolve" appear here.

Instead, the article tells us scientists have "discovered" species that were previously unknown. You haven't explained at all why you feel this "proves" evolution is a fact.

First of all the "but why bother with evidence" comment takes the validity of your argument down a notch. There is great evidence for God's creation of this earth. If you are truly interested, and not just wanting to insult and belittle those who have different opinions than youself, then check out the book "Case for Creationism" by Lee Strobel. Until then, just try show respect for others with different points of view.

It's not about proof. The proof that Creationism is laughable and false is already well documented. But those that don't want to give up their "drug" will continue to make excuses for it, even going so far as to call the evidence "false".

Addicts have the uncanny ability to justify their addiction to themselves, regardless of what logic tells them is true.
