my son is 3 years old, and occasionally calls for us at night, so we still use a monitor. (we wouldn't be able to hear him without it.)
he wakes up sometimes when his eczema flares up.

he never tries to go to our room... he just cries, sometimes half-asleep, until someone goes to him. we aren't inconvenienced, but do you think we should train him to get up and go to us?

I would use a baby monitor until I felt comfortable with my child getting out of bed and coming into my room to wake me up if there was an emergency during the night. If there were stairs involved that age might be a little higher because I wouldn't really want my two year old navigating stairs at night in the dark by his/herself.
I think that your son has a valid medical reason for needing the monitor at this time.

I have a 4yr old, a 1 and a half year old and a newborn and I only use a baby moniter when I have to run outside to the garage or just to step outside. I've never used one for during the night when everyone is asleep. My newborn were always close and once they're old enough the can get up and walk to yor room if they really need you. I feel like tha way they are a little more independent.

Shoot--I don't ever want to stop using the baby monitor. I'm so fearful something might happen while I'm not in the room or someone will come and take him, I mean you never know what could happen. I'm probably just being paranoid but until my child reaches the point where he/she has a private life I'll still be using mine. I don't really see a reason to stop using one.

We used a baby monitor for the first year with our daughter. Hers was the type with a motion alarm to let us know if she didn't move for a certain period of time. We turned that off as soon as she learned to roll and would tuck herself in a corner where the monitor couldn't pick up her movements. We would still use ours if she wasn't so close to our room, we can easily hear her.

I still used the monitor for my 6 & 2 since they both sleep in the same room, but I never go in the first noice I hear, If they are talking I just wait for a little & if they continue I go to quiet them down , once in a while my 2 weaks up looking for his water cup if he doesn't find it then he cries ir not he just go to my room & ask me for his cup ,,,,But a good way will be to teach him if he needs something to go & look for you & not cry ....What I also do is a have a nigth light in the hall if they wake up they will feel more comfortable to walk alone to our room, unless they are sick they migth cry to call our attention !!!! GOOD LUCK !!!!

we still use a baby monitor, but it's just so we know when she wakes up from naps and such. baby monitors are meant to help you keep your kids safe, so when you feel it's time to stop using it,then don't use it anymore.if you need the reassurance that all is gravy in your son's room at 4am, then keep using it. all a matter of opinion with this one.
personally, i can't sleep a wink unless i have it on at night. the sound of her sleeping is the most reassuring thing in the world to me when going to sleep myself.don't get me wrong, i'm not one of those paranoid moms, but it's good to know she's happy and safe before i go to sleep.

I still do, with my almost 2 and almost 4 year olds. I don't really use them when I am in bed, because I can hear them from across the house, but we use them when the kids are asleep and we want to go into the garage, or outside.

I even have this computer screen and prefer it!!! the better section is you are able to alter the sensitivity and it purely makes noise whilst there is something to be heard. NO static! you are able to turn the sensitivity to the utmost point in case you prefer to hearken to each and every thing however the batteries won't final as long. i will inform you it is the main disappointing section...batteries purely final 6-8 hours. It say's it concepts as much as 900 ft away. individually i've got not examined it that far yet i bypass to my buddies abode with it and have not any issues.

I never used them. I just got my lazy butt out of bed and went down the hall to check on them. I usually wake to pee once during the night, so that's when I did my checks on the baby. At 3, my son would come climb in my bed if he didn't feel well or something was wrong.

Keep it. You can use it later when he isn't feeling well and needs you at night.
I used mine when my husband and i would go outside. We would still be able to hear the kids sleeping or out of bed tearing the house down.
