Well, size is an important consideration. All dogs shed, some more than others, some more seasonally, some less hair, but all the time. Think about it - humans shed - we just don't have much hair. Dogs do - all over. If you brush your dog at least weekly (say, while watching t.v.) - it's usually not much of a problem.
"Sport dog?" What kind of sport are you talking about? It's important to think about what you want to do with your dog.
If you want someone to run with you, Basenji hounds are runners, and not very big. Beagles make good joggers. Both have to be on a leash (well, any dog should be), because if they see a rabbit or squirrel, they'll take off - can't help it - they're hunters.
If you want to take up agility (running an obstacle course with your dog), you need a dog who trains well, like a Border Collie, or Poodle (don't overlook the Poodles - they're usually very smart, and athletic - they were bred to swim in very cold water as retrieving dogs. The goofy haircuts make them look foo-foo, but they aren't).
Web sites like Purina.com and the AKC web site have programs where you can answer questions and get suggestions for breeds.
You might also think about a dog from a rescue group or shelter. We've had both - all great. The best dog I ever had came from a shelter.
Good luck!
