when someones dies ???? 'cause we are selfish...and we cry because WE will miss that person....whether they are better off or not...we cry for OUR own loss...not their loss of life....the loss of them being removed from ours.....

Truely, it's because that person was loved and will be missed. It's a human reaction. The Bible states that we should weep when one enters the world and rejoice when they die ... we do the opposite. It's an emotion that goes without being said. Your loved one dies ... you cry.

Because we are human and our emotions get the best of us.. WE know will will never see these people again in this life time anyway. It is very sad to lose someone. so we cry.

Most mammals will produce tears in response to extreme pain or other stimuli, but crying as an emotional reaction is considered by many to be a uniquely human phenomenon, possibly due to humans' advanced self-awareness. Some studies suggest that elephants and gorillas may cry as well.

In nearly all cultures, crying is seen as a specific act associated with tears trickling down the cheeks and accompanied by characteristic sobbing sounds. Emotional triggers are most often anger and grief, but crying can also be triggered by sadness, joy, fear, humor, frustration, or other strongly-experienced emotions.

In many cultures, crying is associated with babies and children. Some cultures consider crying to be undignified and infantile, casting aspersion on those who cry publicly. In most western cultures, it is more socially acceptable for women to cry in public than men, but this is certainly not true for all human cultures.

An insincere display of grief or dishonest remorse is called crocodile tears, from the ancient anecdote that crocodiles would pretend to weep in order to lure prey [4].

Many religions describe gods or prophets as crying:

According to a hadith, the prophet Muhammad proclaimed: "This (tears) is an expression of the tenderness and compassion, which the Lord hath put into the hearts of His servants. The Lord doth not have compassion on and commiserate with His servants, except such as are tender and full of feeling."
The shortest verse in the Bible (in the King James Version of the Bible and some other English translations) is simply: "Jesus wept."
Jade is sometimes known as "tears of the Buddha".
The Incas referred to silver as the "tears of the moon".
Some modern therapy movements such as Re-evaluation Counseling believe that crying is beneficial to health and mental wellbeing, and positively encourage it.

Spiritual aspects
The Gift of Tears in Shin Buddhism: Tears of joy and grief cleanse our souls. Christians as well may perceive tears as spiritual gift when they refer to Gospel of Jesus Christ: "Blessed are you that weep now, for you shall laugh" (Luke 6.21), while Weeping Icons are a common feature of the Easten Christian Traditions. Tears play an important role in the Eastern Christian Mystic Theology.

I got the two explanations from my parents (and one twisted one from my baby-sitter)

1. Religious, detailed, that was a bit too sophisticated for me like: "Death is the end of earthly life, Death is a consequence of sin, and Death is transformed by Christ". I would get more detail, until they saw I was about to go to sleep and then they'd re-grab my interest with butterfly's (I think dragon fly's work for boys)

2. You're body is like a Caterpillar. We live in it -- function in it --and when we die, we shed the body but the soul remains in a cocoon changing until Jesus lets us out to fly around in our new perfect butterfly bodies --- but we only get the cool butterfly bodies if we behave, spread God's love, and try to fulfil God's plan while we're caterpillar's --- very magical --- fits/ answers lots of life questions too !!!

3. From my babysitter (a very bad influence, but fun):

Did you ever think - when a Hearse goes by - that you may be the next to die? They wrap you up in bloody sheets, and throw you down about six feet. -- The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out, the worms play penucal on your snout. -- The big black bugs, with big green eyes, crawl in your nose and out your eyes. -- Your stomach turns a gasping green and puss comes out like whipping cream. -- You spead it on a piece of bread and sit there eating it while you're dead. -- Your hair turns gray, your teeth decay, and that's the end of a perfect day!!!

Ok, so with this knowledge, we cry because of the sin. Crying is purifying us and the deceased. Since we only have awareness of here & now, the transormation by Christ is too eluding. Plus, purifiying yourself and showing sorrow for sin & tears of happiness for the gift of having that person in your life are just another of God's gift to make us pure love.

It's a reaction to emotion. Animals have it too. Ever seen a depressed dog? It's very depressing.

we cry for ourselves because we will miss them and for the sadness the family must feel, also if they are very young it is sad that they didn't have a chance to experience their life further.

It's a "release emotion" given to us by God.
