For the money, I have always believed that the Ford Taurus is the best buy on the road. This car is a roomy mid-sized sedan that comes standard with power windows, door locks, cruise control, and many other features. It features a v6 engine that is very economical on gas but has plenty of pep when you drive. Another great feature of this car is that it has a very low insurance rating, so your insurance premium wouldn't be out of this world.

I think KIA has come a long way, I've owned the Sephia (now called Spectra) and I currently have the Sedona Minivan. You can't beat the price and the 10 year warranty. I haven't had any problems with either of mine.

They even transfer the warranty to new owners, so if you need something even cheaper you can find a used one really cheap with years more warranty than some new vehicles.

To get a real good answer to your question you need to provide some more information.

What does expensive mean to you?
What size car are you interested in?
How long do you plan on owning it?
Are you interested in new or pre-owned?

A Honda Civic offers the best relaibility and a low cost of ownership. There are cheaper cars (like Kia, Suzuki, etc) however they will be junk in 3-5 years and their resale value is horrible. They are basically disposable cars.
