Only one of my kids had a pacifier until the age of around 2 and her teeth are fine. She threw it away on her own. I read a news story of how using pacifiers can help reduce the risk of SIDS so I am not against it.

What do you mean by "bad"? Pacifiers aren't really that different from thumbs when it comes to kids sucking on them. Some doctors want you to take pacifiers away after a certain age to prevent dental problems, and I have heard the babies who constantly have pacifiers in their mouths don't speak as quickly as babies who don't use one. A pacifier is just a comfort device that is perfectly safe to give to your child.

They make pacifiers that are made so they don't mess the teeth up. My daughter had a pacifier that wasn't orthodontic and she started to get buck teeth. We got rid of that fast. So just be careful of the shape of the nipple on the pacifier, get one that is orthodontic.

No. Leaving a bottle in your baby's mouth at night or not ever brushing your baby's teeth may cause a concern, but a pacifier? No.

You should not let a kid suck on a pacifier after they get teeth. The sucking motion will cause them to move and be all jacked up.

prolonged constant usage may be bad if the kids still using them like after 3-4. Occasional use after that is ok too. It's the constant sucking motion that may be bad for the teeth. (But the sippy cup sucking is the same.) When babies are younger, they have an urge to suck on things, espeically when teething, they like things in their mouth. I personalyl found it very helpful. I weaned mine off about 18-20month.

No, children will either be bad or good and it has nothing to do with a pacifier. Depends on their upbringing and social pressure.

No, of course not. If they've still got it when they're walking to school--which I've seen--there's cause for concern, because that's the age when their permanent teeth will begin to come in. But for a baby-2 year old? Nothing to worry about.

I think that they do. The best thing you can do is take it away when he or she is around the age of 2. This way it doesn't affect their teeth. Also, it hinders their speech. My daughter is 2 and loves it, They will soon disappear though.

I read somewhere that as long as they are the orthodontic ones and the child is not too old, like younger than 3 I think, it shouldn't affect their teeth.
