Grandma Susie, I've been putting the questions in R&S because a lot of the morals and values that people have which would pertain to my questions can be traced back to the teachings of their religion. At least that's my opinion.

we are only renting the body, why not make your spare parts available to others who need them more than your corpse ever will.

I am not a donor, but I have specific reasons for that. Organ donation, in my opinion, is uninformed consent. It everyone knew what they actually do to you when you are a donor, you would think twice. People are misinformed and think that their organs are going to save so many lives. It is a good program, however, the only way your vital organs can be used in another living person is if you are being kept alive by artificial means. If you simply die and then donate, your vital organs are not transplanted into another human. Also, they literally filet and butcher people. I am not arguing that it is a bad thing, it is just that the Organ Centers do not educate well enough.

Yes.
Yes.
No.

Donating organs are the most noble thing to do. You're dead or about to die anyway. Let someone else live with yours.

You can't take it with you, right? With today's advancement in science and medicine, it is so great that we can do that.

25 or 30 years ago, this is unthinkable. After the first heart transplant at S.Africa by Christian Barnard at Debeer Degroote hospital, organ donation has taken a life of their own.

We have to look ahead and be with the science and technology. I have also encouraged all my little ones, not so little ones, my relatives and their children and others around me to donate their organs.

Whatever is still good from my body can be used by someone else. I might feel weird donating a family members organs though, but I don't know why.

Not really. Most of my relatives are fundie xians and believe that it is wrong to do that. I had rheumatic fever as a child and was told I would not be a canidate for organ donation or blood donation. So, for me it is a moot point.
I used to watch the x-files every time they came on. And Mulder was my hero. Love your avatar.

1 - Yes, we are all potential donors.
2 - Absolutely - whatever's useful to a living person.
3 - No. I even asked my brother to donate half of his big mouth while he's still alive.

If the topic has not been discussed, it is hard to make that decision at the time of death. It is best to discuss. I have made my decision clear to my loved ones. And respect their wishes at time of death.

Why do you put all these questions on Religion? They are good questons, don't think I'm critical of your questions, but these and the one about capital punishment don't seem to be in the right category here.
