My best recommendation would be King Fortis the Brave. It's about a pair of twelve-year-old twins that are brought to a magical world where they are caught up in a battle for control of that land. It is full of action and humor and is an easy read.

More importantly, one of twins (Aimee) and a warrior they meet along the way (Gillian) are two very strong female characters who would be excellent roll models for a thirteen-year-old girl and would be characters that she should easily be able to identify with.

Give it a try. You'll be happy you did.

It depends on what the child likes. I didn't like to read either when I was younger then one day when I was 16 I went to a book store and just picked up this book in psychology section and ever since I haven't been able to stop reading about other peoples lives. You should bring the child to a book store and let her look around and see if she likes any of the books there.

It depends on the firl and her tastes. Try fantasy or romance books, those are the most popular with the women I know. Also try stories of perserverance and survival. Those are always inspirational and many people enjoy reading them.

Honestly though, I would reccomend books by Tamora Pierce. You'll usually find her in the young adult section. I loved her books at that age and still enjoy them now. They are about girls her age and are very well written books.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with Judy Blume. I read these books and so did my daughter.

Every pre-teen to teenage girl I know has read books by Judy Blume and loved them!
