Share a story with them and incorporate the new food. BE interactive and have fun with it. Let them see you eating it. Kids like to talk so use this. Talk about it. The shape the color. the texture ( Cooked or uncooked) then talk about how it might tast. Sweet salty bland. Again interaction is the best way.

Don't try to "trick them"...that's deceitful. Just put the food in front of you and them and start eating your's. If they want it, they'll start eating it. If they don't, it's not the end of the world.

I've always been a finnecky eater. I hate it when people bug me to "try this or that" and tell me that I don't know what I'm missing because I don't want to eat their foods. I eat what I like and I'm fine. Why can't they just leave me alone?

Easy - don't offer alternatives.

My philosophy raising my three:
"You always have a right to refuse what is served. You do NOT have the right to demand a replacement meal."

Option #1: Serve something new for dinner for the whole family; if they don't like it, tell them that they can instead go get ready for bed if they don't want to eat it. Do NOT give in to the whining or accept alternatives for bedtime.

Option #2: Offer an alternative food for them to choose that you know is worse that option #1. Accept no counter-offers (who's the parent here?)

Using bribes could be good, however, prepare for the consequences if you use bribes too often, they might refuse other things also just to make you bribe them for that too. But you could try a reward system. They eat the food you want them to eat, they get say the ice cream they like for dessert. Something like that.

Why did I get a thumbs down? Rewarding children for good behavoir is a good thing to do.

With kids presentation is EVERYTHING.
If it doesn't look interesting, forget it.
Try to make dishes look as appealing as possible, and even cute or funny.
Once a child learns to like a food they will eat it without all the 'window dressing'.

Bribery. Tell them that they can't have more of their favorite food unless they try the new stuff first. Then eat a sample of it yourself.

i always ask them to try it...i give them a little of it on a small spoon, with a napkin near, and tell them if they don't like it they can spit it out, and i give a glass of water so they can rinse their mouth out... it works all the time for me...and they have found many foods they like and some they do not like....

get them to help plan meals and help cook them, show them photos of types of foods and ask what they would to try

you could start by making home made pizzas, maybe a pasta pizza, with everyone adding their own toppings, muffin sized meat loaf
