I am buying a brand new home. The builder ordered the wrong cabinets and refaced them. I have asked them them to rip out the refaced ones (Cherry Veneer over Oak), and replace them with the ones I ordered (Cherry). They won't budge. How concerned should I be about the quality/durability of what they are trying to give me. Will the life of refaced cabinets be the same as new ones??

Its all veneer anyway. The actual structure of the cabinets are made from the same material regardless of which ones you choose (particle board made from glue and pine sawdust) so there will be no difference in durability or quality.

Re-facing them is only putting new fronts on them. This is the frame & doors. You still have the same sides, bottoms, tops, and shelving. If those are in good shape. You can make the builder change the cabinets if he ordered the wrong ones. He's trying to save money out of his own pocket. You can win this argument if you persue it. Tell him you will take him to small claims court. I am a contractor and if I did it this way I'd be considered a con. Tell him to take care of the problem. I certainly would.
