I've heard that in Hawaii there is a Portuguese area? Where is this area? Is there any site seeing in that area? I will be going to Hawaii in November and since I am a Portuguese immigrant in the United States I am very interest in visiting this area? So any information I can get would be much appreciated.

Hello! The highest concentrations of Portuguese people today can be found in Honoka'a on the Big Island (Hawaii), Makawao and Kula on Maui, and Lihue and Kalaheo in Kauai. You could swing by any of these areas, depending on which island you plan to visit. However, just because of how Hawaii's evolved, the Portuguese are very dispersed and the culture has intermingled with the local culture...so I wouldn't expect too much in the way of cultural offerings. For example, there's no Portuguese museum that I know of, and not many cultural events, as far as I've seen in my 17 yrs of living on the Big Island.

It's too bad you're coming in November. The Portuguese festival "Festa" happens on Oct 7-8 in Oahu, and features Portuguese food, craftwork, local artists and vendors, cooking demonstrations, cultural displays and video demonstrations. They'll also have genealogy organizations. It's held at the Ala Moana Beach Park. That's the only festival I know that's coming up soon.

Sorry there isn't more to offer in the way of a cultural experience...but I hope that you'll have fun in Hawaii anyway. =)

All over - - - the Portuguese settled on all the Islands and have blessed all the island with their food their culture their love - - - they are also famous for being chatterboxes & enjoying recreation a tad bit more than work. The first to answer has listed a few of her favorites, a few more places could be Palolo Valley, Waipahu where one find Portuguese who have married Filipina / Filipino - - - Wahiawa where the 'rich' Portuguese like to live because Wahiawa has bigger lots for big houses - - - Portuguese are big on family get togethers. Have fun on O'ahu - - - check out Frank Delima and Mel Cabang for Old Style Comedy - - -
