I definitely think that you need to break this, but know it is not an easy task. Try telling her that she is a big girl now and you need to give bottles to other babies who need them. Then together get all the bottles in the house and put them into a bag or basket. Take her outside and tell her that you are going to put them into the tree and during the night the fairies will pick them up to give to other babies who need them and they will leave her a gift for being such a good girl and sharing her bottles. The next morning when she gets up make sure to leave something in the bag or basket for her.

The best thing you can do is to get rid of the bottles altogether so you don't have the temptation to allow her to have one even once during the day...I know how easy it is to give in to your kids when they are crying for their bubbas....I always made sure my kids were off of the bottle by two years old anyway and doctors don't even like that....You have to worry about their teeth development and "bottle rot"...It sounds like the bottle is a source of security for her...

You should take her to the store and have her pick out some really cool sippy cups...they make all kinds of neat designs now. Maybe if she helps pick them out, she will feel more empowered in the process of transitioning from the bottle to the sippy cup...

Ultimately if you get rid of the bottles and only offer her cups or even drinks with straws, she will learn she has no choice but to use them if she wants to drink. It will be a test of wills for a while but she will adjust and you will make it through as well....Good luck....

You shouldn't have let it go on this long! My daughter was off the bottle at 15 months. Just clean them up put them away out of sight, give her a sippy cup instead. You better watch out for bottle rot too. Older kids tend to get that using a bottle all the time.

I took my daugher's bottle when she turned 1, she's now 18 months and drinks from a sippy cup or straw n cup. I just took it and hid all of the bottles or threw them in the garbage. Give her a sippy cup. It will be hard the first wk or so, but you have to do it. Its not good for her teeth to have bottle at this age.

Start by only letting her have it when she's lying down or having a nap - children should never walk around with a bottle in their mouth - accident waiting to happen.
Next, mix in 1/8 water for 1 week, then 1/4 water for one week until she is just drinking water. Usually they'll give it up once they realize they aren't getting milk anymore.
Two of my kids 1 1/2yrs and 3yrs had the stomach flu and the doc said no milk for a week. They both gave up their bottles when they realized they were only getting water!!

I saw on one of the Nannie shows that they tied up all of the childs binkies in a tree and said that they binkie farie was going to come and give them to the little baby's that needed them. Maybe this will work with the bottle as well. I think I also remember one of the shows where they bought the child a really cool sippy sup with there favorite cartoon on it.

*rolling my eyes* Why in the hell does she have it two years longer than she needed it? Let's tell the truth here people!!! You were just too lazy to deal with the crying and screaming at night when it was time for her to go to bed! And she's out in public probably taller than most 5 year olds with a bottle in her mouth! How do you get it from her. TAKE IT! And hand her a cup with a straw!

My daughter just turned 2 she also still has a bottle. With my son I used a sippy cup but, it isn't working for my daughter. My son used the cups with the soft nipple. Maybe this will work for you. Good Luck.

I just read the 'binkie' fairy answer from Nanny 911 - I used that one 2 weeks ago with my daughter - she's been off the 'binkie' for 2 weeks now - I'm sure it will work with the bottle too - GOOD LUCK
