Do you agree with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who warned, “There is nothing more dangerous than to build a society, with a large segment of people in that society, who feel that they have no stake in it; who feel that they have nothing to lose. People who have a stake in their society, protect that society, but when they don’t ‘own’ it, they want to destroy it.”
Isn't this scenario taking place right now with illegal immigration/people who have no stake in this society?

Mendi8a: Amnesty will not solve the issue. Then they will think even less of our laws...that they aren't serious...or at least that the laws don't apply to them...this doesn't make for great citizenry!

Katsulover: I quoted the man word for word. Just because he was speaking specifically about the plight of black people who were being shunned out of a "white man's" society, DOES NOT make it any less true or applicable to other situations.
Why are you screaming at me? We are on the same side of the issue. The point being that these people who are coming here illegally are making their own society in the shadows of our society while draining our resources. Just another reason to step up the actions of our government to get rid of the problem (all 11-20 million of them!)
PS: You sound like you need a vacation.

There are a large number of Americans that believe that they have no stake in this society.Who feel that they have nothing to lose.Do you really believe that ppl in this society actually own it?That they have a say? That doesn't mean that they necessarily want to "destroy" it.I believe that the ppl in this country have lost control of it.Maybe we never actually had control in the first place. It's sad ,but I think it's the truth.Especially with this tyrant we call a president.
I'm not anti American,I love my country. But I doubt our government has OUR best interests in mind. All of our politicians are only looking out for themselves.
I don't agree with illegal immigration,I KNOW we need border security. But will it happen......no.
I also think that somewhere down the line something took place that made it impossible to secure our borders and that we were left in the dark about it (imagine that).
We can take back our country,as a ppl.We all need to realize that no matter what WE are never ALL going to ALL agree on ANYTHING.Think about it.Ppl need to be willing to compromise, they need to be more tolerant. Our young ppl need to start to take a more active role in our society. They will be the ones who can eventually change our country back into a democracy.

No I do not agree with his statement on illegal immigration. Now first Mexicans are not the only illegal immigrants that we have in the US, so this is not bashing the Mexicans.
His statement was meant for the segregation and bigotry that was happening in the 50's and 60's. These issues have not been fully rectified since then but they are still moving and progressing. Some think that they are actually digressing since the voting scandals of 2000 and 2004, but we have the right to vote and have steps if we feel those rights are not being recognized.
Illegal immigration is what it states illegal and there are steps and procedures that have to be followed or you face the consequences.

That quote was taken from a speech by the great Dr. King delivered during a anti war address. Below is a comment from a student at that speech.. it was not on illegal immigration.. shame on you.
January 10, 2004—Thirty-six years ago, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., delivered a speech that changed my life. I was a student at Union Theological Seminary in New York City in 1967, during the peak of the Vietnam war. Almost by accident a friend invited me across the street to hear Dr. King deliver a comprehensive anti-war address at Riverside Church.
There is nothing more dangerous than to build a society, with a large segment of people in that society, who feel that they have no stake in it; who feel that they have nothing to lose. People who have a stake in their society, protect that society, but when they don't have it, they unconsciously want to destroy it. Martin Luther King,Jr.
The economic and moral crisis we are facing today—the ubiquity of violent crime, the endemic clutch of drugs, the growing poverty of the working poor, the ruin of the Bill of Rights, the suffocation of millions of decent lives in the ghettos of our cities—all date back to that fateful turn when American leaders, pressured by big corporations, chose war over peace, empire over civil rights and social progress.

Do not bastardize this great mans statements. He said nothing about illegal immigration. He was talking of the inequities between blacks and white Americans at the time.Do not in any way try to compare the black struggle for equality ,to the illegal acts of the illegal immigrants.
You are grasping at straws, the illegal is a criminal ,in this nation illegally not an American born black person. They rightfully deserved to be angry, for they had been denied the rights that other Americans always had.Do not cheapen the black Americans civil rights struggle by
comparing it to people who do not deserve it.Illegal immigrants are illegal .They do not have any rights in America.

I continually get a chortle even as some hysterical leftist insists that we persist with the words of King and decide human beings through their personality and under no circumstances the colour of their epidermis, and then pass on a rant about how we desire affirmative action, options, set asides, you call it, in fact judging human beings through the colour of their epidermis and under no circumstances their personality.

So true. It's kinda like when I let my friend drive my new car. She was racing people in it, barely making it around turns she was going so fast. I made her stop and get out, I told her, "If you wreck this car, I still have to pay for it!" She didn't care because it wasn't her payment. Same logic. Good point.

Good argument!
If they came here legally, they would have a stake in society, but as they skipped over the proper steps, their only future with this society is either deportation or detainment. Why not ruin neighborhood after neighborhood and town after town? Send them back before we can't repair the damage.

I believe it has basis in fact when you regard cities that enable low income renters to become home owners. Suddenly they have a stake in their communities and property, so are more mindful of it.

I think you're absolutely right. Illegal immigration needs to be ended. Legal immigration only, no substitutes.
