I have a daughter that will be 10 next month and she is wanting to have a dance. I remember going to dance's when I was young, but this may be a little too young. Of course parents will be there, but noone has had a birthday dance yet, and I just wanted some opinions on whether or not this is appropriate for this age?

By having a dance, does she want to invite boys or just her girlfriends. 10/11 year old boys aren't going to want to go to a dance party. If its just girlfriends, clear the floor and let them have a good time. If she is expecting to go someplace where there are older boys I would say no way.

I've never heard of a birthday dance for anybody (no matter age)

I guess it could be a good party with the parents and the invited kids? But I don't think the boys would want to dance nor would they want to dance with their parents there!

When my daughter turned 10 we had a spa party, where the girls came home with her and we did facial, manicures, pedicures and fixed their hair they all got dressed up for dinner. At dinner time they boys came and had a sit down dinner then the dance was held out on thepatio. they did some slow dancing but mainly they played hide and seek and chase around the yard. but she was happy b/c she got to have a birthday dance. Great Great party!!!!!

At 10 it is doubtful that there will be alot of close slow dancing. I say let her have a dance. You may wish to research different dances online. Have fun sounds like your kid has some fun ideas.

i think you should let her know that this is an important time in her growing up years and that you are letting her attend so both of you will know the rules and regulations of your household. she needs to know that trust is earned at a very young age. give her the experience of making her own decisions at a young age, and then it wont seem so hard when she is older.

i would think it is appropriate.... she probably just wants to hang out with her friends and dance to music for her birthday.

pre teens are interested in dancing and that is good for them....as long as parents are there i see no harm in it. hope you go and watch your daughter have fun.................
