When someone dies, how long after they die is the "wake" scheduled, and then the actual funeral??

It all depends on the wishes of the family. Sometimes they are waiting for out-of-town family, so we wait. Generally the wake and funeral occur within the week of the person passing. Autopsies do not slow the process that much, as they are completed within 36 hours from the time of death.

most people i know have it about 5 or 6 days later, but i have never been to a wake....i been to a lot of funerals but never a wake. there is usually a viewing an hour before the funeral and then a final viewing afterwards. when my mom died we had to have it seven days later because the church was booked that whole week....go figure.

some religions have different traditions, but generally speaking, the wake is scheduled within the week and the actual funeral is the last day of the wake....

It all depends, how they died. If it's natural causes it can all go pretty fast, days later. But if an autopsy is needed you can wait up to weeks, it really is different from case to case. A friend of us died about two weeks ago, she died on a Sunday, the wake was on the Friday after and the cremation was Monday after and that was after an autopsy so it was pretty fast, just to show you, it depends

Every circumstance is different. Sometimes family members out of state have to be contacted and the body is held. When my uncle died, his wake wasn't until 2 weeks after his death.

If someone dies and you try to wake them, chances are they won't wake up. If they do wake up, then they were not dead. Good luck.
